Neckface - Performance Art at MOCA
Neckface had arguably the 'scariest' installation at MOCA. Click the jump for more
Neckface's installation was not just the 'art', it also includes some terrifying performance art.
Neckface was given a dark corner of the exhibit, and he made it darker. He dimmed the lights, brought in trash, and made it feel like a dangerous city alleyway. And right where you get to the spot in the alley to see the art on the wall, there is a blanket looking like the place where a homeless man might sleep set up on the back wall (pictured below). Once people turn to view the art, a rough looking homeless guy jumps out from the bed and scars the crap out of the art patrons.
We really love this piece from Neckface. Like with Banksy, it is like he is saying, "okay, I will be in your museum", but, "it will be on my terms". And whereas the museum experience is usually a passive one, with the viewer just taking it all in, Neckface flips the table so that the visitors to the museum then become the art.
This installation is really amazing, and hands down the scariest in the show.
