Why Sticker Artists Deserve More Cred than Wheat Pasters
In M&F's opinion, street sticker artists are much more 'street' and deserve more credit than wheat pasters.
The reason is that it is much harder to make a name, takes a lot more work, and it is a much more intimate experience stickering a city compared to wheat pasting.
With stickering, it is so small, and so personal, that the person getting up actually has to walk that area. So to get up big takes a lot of time and commitment. Wheat pasting, on the other hand can be done in a one night run, and a lot of people will see your work. This is not to say that wheat pasters don't deserve props. Not at all. They earn it too. But what pasting does not engage the artist with the city on the same level that stickering does. And that is why street sticker artists are much more street, and deserve more credit than wheat pasters.
This spot is a great example of some of the big names in LA who have hoofed it all over, and put in the work to be big names in LA's sticker street art scene. This is a random kind of out of the way spot, with a lot of cars but not a lot of foot traffic, and it looks like the slaps have been riding for years.
These are also some of the names that inspired us to start M&F and give props to these artists. Props, guys~

I am a fan of the niche group of Los Angeles flamethrower artists, who trump both of these groups with their ability to burn shit down.

ReplyDeleteDo sticker'ers ever get arrested? In trouble ? Cited? Just curious how the law felt about it. Id love to know....
ReplyDeleteThanks
stickering carries a higher penalty than wheat pasting. they break it down to how much it costs to clean up and some stickers just don't come off. so basically it can be a felony if you are caught and they have a file on your designs that exceeds $400 of damage - which adds up fast when you consider a new stop sign is about $250.
DeleteIt depends on how big We go. I have gotten stopped for putting up stickers and I used the excuse "I Am a sticker collector and was just trying to get that sticker up there"
Deleteit is still vandalism, is my point.
Big ups to Branded and his Bratz video

ReplyDeleteSticker bombers do tons of work on the street, i love stickers and all the intimate little spots that you can find in some crazy spots, but I know very few who only do wheat paste or only do stickers. anyone with the passion will bomb everything with whatever they have, paint, posters, stickers, anything.
