I Love New York

'I Love New York' bus stop takeovers in Los Angeles.

These I Love New York bus stop takeovers are from new street artist 'Secret Agent Mike'.

He says he was "originally from NYC & Melrose offers me the gritty feel of the city I remember".

We dig what he's doing, and these bus stop takeovers are everywhere from Melrose, to Venice, to Westminster, so keep an eye out for a New York bus bench takeover near you. He says they usually last a few weeks before being taken down.

  3. I had an encounter with Secret Agent Mike once. It was 2 or 3 am on a Saturday, and I was wandering down Melrose Ave, making my way back to my apartment after a night of, well, delirium. Coming up behind me I could hear music, louder louder. The Chemical Brothers were his beats of choice. Video camera in hand, he approaches me, stops. "How's it goin? Can you push this button?" He was tall, attractive, with a deep voice. Wasn't expecting this on my walk home. I grab the camera and stand in the middle of the street- no cars, no people around for blocks and blocks. Funny how he manages to stay anonymous like that. I watch through the display as he whips out a rolled up piece of vinyl. Moving with his beats, he unrolls the vinyl and removes the adhesive backing. He holds up his photo of NYC admiringly. I start to get excited. I know what he's about to do. I'm moving with the music, standing in the streets, reveling in the risk and spontaneity. Next thing I know it's done: bus bench of NYC. such a simple little thing but it was marvelous. he walks towards me, towards the camera, takes it from my hand, and leans in for a long and passionate kiss. In the middle of Melrose Ave at 3am. He says "cheers" and walks off. And I never saw him again. Just like that. I still think about that night.

  5. He's def one of my favorite LA street artists. His photos are amazing and the guerilla aspect makes them all the more intriguing. I hope he keeps it up. His "i love ny" stuff is one of the things that makes me love la. Amazing.
