Death Cab For Cutie Street Art Video by Obey on MELROSEandFAIRFAX
Shepard Fairey (Obey) just directed a music video for Death Cab for Cutie.
The video features lyrics from Death Cab's 'Home Is a Fire' song. These lyrics were printed and actually pasted around town.
The video just released a couple of days ago, which is cool, but what is even cooler is that MELROSEandFAIRFAX covered some of these video pieces on the streets. It was without context at the time, but now that we know that these pieces were for the video, it puts it in a different light. And it is cool to think that not even a video gets made on the streets of LA without M&F capturing some of it.
The street pieces from the video we posted can be seen HERE and HERE.
Also, you can watch the video on YouTube and check out Obey's site for his description of the project. In his words "I would say that a street art call to action is “if you don’t like your home… reshape it”."

Im not really a fan of Death Cab for Cutie, but that was pretty awesome! Props for finding those pieces! I remember wondering what they meant, now that they aren't out of context, they make sense
ReplyDeleteSo now Obey is using street art to hype up a Corporate band
ReplyDeleteSuper Whack
I dig this...
ReplyDelete"Corporate band"? I thought Death Cab were like the definition of today's indie band, signed to a major label or not.
ReplyDeleteShould have got morley to direct the vid the band and him could cry together and talk about love and heartbreak
ReplyDeleteInteresting! Not sure if I am sold on the lyrical goodness of "the bricks made me nervous" but it's an interesting concept!
