HuffPo Calls Out Street Art for Getting Called Out on Simpsons
The Simpsons aired a street art themed episode last week entitled 'Exit Through the Kwik-E Mart'. Even though street art was featured, it was more like a roast, as the show poked fun at street art.
The Simpsons called into question the toughness of street artists, and the puzzling question about how it is 'street' if it is in a gallery? Shepard Fairey plays the jester and plays along as he tells Bart that "street art is not about questioning authority!"
Anna Almendrala from the Huffington Post correctly calls out the jabs at street art, and Fairey for playing along. The Simpsons raised questions that many people in the street art community wonder about and feel need to be addressed. Unfortunately, the Simpsons asked the questions but did not answer them. You can read the full Huffington Post article about the Simpsons HERE.

The Simpsons episode was super accurate with the exception of handful street artist!! All theses street artist are really puppets!!Think about it!!All the sellouts end up putting their shit in art galleries!!
ReplyDeletenothing wrong with getting work in galleries. if the only reason why you're doing it is to get into galleries and then you quit hitting the streets once you're in a gallery - then that's pretty f'd up.

I'm paraphrasing here but I believe it was ghandi who when asked about the rub regarding multiple religions/mixed messages stated that there are -many ways to the top of the mountain-
DeleteTtagger, thanks for staying positive.
Ive never seen a counter culture that replicates it's Orwellian enemy with such tenacity. Psychologically, it's fascinating to watch you guys
play out your rules and politikks and hierarchy. I
say we do away with the whole anonymous
approach to comments. Or at least put them in a
separate category titled spam.
Keep painting or pasting or rolling or slapping or whatever it is you like to do. Life is fun. Live it.

Well, its true, all you skinny-jean fags are fake artists and wanna-be rebels. The mail goal of every so called street artists now is to get into a gallery and be the next Fairey or Brainwash. I respect the pioneers, but its too many wanna-be's now. Whatever happened to picking up a spray can and bombing shit??? Oh, I forgot, 'street' artists dont have style. Just check the next time you see FH or Teacher hit up a tag. UGLY!!! Toy shit!
ReplyDeletegood grief... well, at least you're hating the right people. please say what you will but only if it makes you feel better, because FH and i can take it and i'll tell you why we can take the hate - instead of putting our energy into hate, we put it into being great. so, have a great day - i seriously hope you know how to..... be the change you want to see. =)

Banksy says you don't eat to shit. But if you are a street artist and you find your artwork sitting in a gallery aren't you sitting in shit?
ReplyDeleteFuck all the gallery bitches and the lame muralists. Street art is about streets

LMAO @ Teacher talking about being "great". Relax Banksy. U've been a street artist less than a year.
ReplyDeleteyou misread what i wrote. i wrote, i put my energy into being great. that doesn't mean i think i'm great - it just means i put my energy into being great... i'm glad you got a laugh out of it - laughing is good exercise for the abdominal muscles, the lungs, and the heart.
Deletei've been an artist my whole life, almost 43years. about 25 years ago i did a little street art in florida. since then i worked on paintings while set up in the corridors of the pentagon 7 times in 4 years because people liked being able to see a painting develop - specially in a place where normally they'd never get to see it happen - that lead to doing the same thing at air force bases, camp pendleton marine base, city halls, court houses, police depts(usa and germany), fire depts, the federal building and the vets hospital in west la, and parirenyatwa hospital in harare zimbabwe. then a little over a year ago i got back into street art because of the cuts in the education budget. i know this is probably too much info, but its what i mean by putting my energy into being great.

You tell him teach don't let the haters get you down.
ReplyDeleteKeep doing your stuff you'll see who gets the last laugh when they all die out.

Well, put your energy into fixing your tagging style. And stop lying about doing "street art" 25 years ago. Street art is relatively new, and I know you didn't tag because your style sucks. No can control.
ReplyDeleteTechnically street art has existed since the beginning of humans.
Delete^if this is the case, how has street art been around longer than there were streets?
Deleteheh... i guess it depends on what you call a street.
Deletei realized that i was indeed lying about doing street art 25 years ago. when i was 15 years old i airbrushed tshirts and other objects in destin, florida. i was set up outside right next to the street -hwy 98 - and a few of the pieces i did were set up on the street. that was actually 28 years ago - my bad.

"stop lying about doing "street art" 25 years ago. Street art is relatively new."
DeleteFuckin' hilarious!
anonymous has a point Teach. Im all about positivity, and minding my own business, and all that stuff but when I started painting about 6 years ago I knew what I was getting into, and I knew that part of the game is either you develop your own style with skill, or you will get ragged on until you go home crying home to your mom. So after people tore me apart after looking at my shitty tags, I didnt go on the internet and address them, I just went out and practiced and got better. Everytime you address one of these people it just brings you down as an artist. get off your computer and go paint
ReplyDeletethanks for taking the time out to share your experience. i'm not a weak artist that gets brought down by addressing people. after being in Zimbabwe twice where i stayed at an orphanage and slept with spiders, cockroaches, and rats crawling on me, this cyber stuff doesn't even phase me. i enjoy addressing people on my computer when i have time. sometimes i get ideas from doing it. i'm glad you got better. keep up the great work.

lol, Teacher sounds like a know-it-all loser. Story teller.
ReplyDeleteYou should start a Teacher hate club. I bet they elect you queen of the Teacher hate club.
DeleteAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAA!!!!
DeleteI've killed and I've burried, and I've come home to this bs! Street art is to HELP THE REST OF THE WORLD SEE HOW YOU VIEW IT. Graff'n is to get your name up and to take back control from a world of marketing. If you think your great your greatly confused. And if you think street art changes the world agian confused. Your not a humanitarian because you tag "DON'T HATE", You are human just like us all. And there is the possibility to be famous. What you do with that fame is what makes you! 4get what anyone else has done or will do and do you! The streets are ours to take back! L2B LMPG TRiX -Take a trip to Japan to help then put up your name out there and I'll respect your movement!
ReplyDeleteHuh?
DeleteI wish I hadn't missed this episode. I caught the Banksy one a while back and it was sooo good!
