Mr. Brainwash Throws a Party

Is it the opening of 'Art Show 2011'?

Last night a big party went down at the gallery space for Mr. Brainwash's 'Art Show 2011'. It was a big event with black ties and sponsorship from T Mobile.

Still not sure if this is the soft opening for 'Art Show 2011'. Very strange there has still been no date posted for the general opening of the show?

***Thanks to RS70 for the pic!***

  6. I, for one, am willing to give MBW the benefit of the doubt, on his decision to throw a party for corporate players *before* opening the space/artshow 2011 to the public and especially to the artists who contributed their work.

It's his joint and he can do as he likes.

I hope, for his sake, he knows what he's doing.

Karma can be a cool breeze or a bitch in heat.

    Carry on.

  7. Not necessarily-EVERYONE who participated signed a lengthy release so no crying about what you agreed to legally...
But the people who hit the pillars got "Googled" I think.
Look at the press photos.(Getty Images) And one could say he used everyone but the reality is: its Hollywood and someone could benefit due to the amount of exposure the spot experienced.
Thats worth something-or not..either way, this type of art has always been temporary-so live and let go and keep moving forward. Also know that when you sign a release, most likely they are going to use the "released" content for their benefit so to speak. Otherwise there would be no need for a contract in the first place.

There never was gonna be an artshow.

    Karma, MBW, karma...

  10. And just for the record, Mr.EVERYONE signed a lengthy release and someone could benefit due to the amount of exposure...

You sound like a real dick.

I'd say, "he used everyone" is putting it mildly.

MBW took out ads in the LA WEEKLY and online, inviting artists from all over the globe to participate in his artshow2011. He knew damn well the whole thing was a set-up for the Big Event on Wednesday night.

Good for him. I'm sure he made a nice piece of change. Seven figures, no doubt.

And yeah, life will go on. It will be interesting to see what the response will be from artists in the community, once they realize how they've been hustled.

This was never about a contract/release, or getting some exposure...it was about creating art, being part of a Happening and sharing one's work with others.

Something you will probably never understand.

As for MBW...I feel for the guy.

  11. i heard mr brainwash attended the party buck naked wearing a FANTASTIC new suit of clothes ... IN HIS MIND.

mr brainwash's real name is mr. guetta and he owns this building and can do anything he wants with it. he bought the building because he likes to buy buildings. he owns a whole lot of them. word is that his buildings provide completely legal and risk-free exterior walls for gentleman artists.

  12. Sorry Kyter, you're missing the point.

MBW, knew from the get-go, that his artshow2011 was *never* gonna happen. Still, it didn't stop him "inviting artists from around the globe to participate", via The LA Weekly and online.

If anything, he's guilty of mass deception in the way he went about presenting artshow2011 to the artists and public at large. Not cool.

There was no need for the charade in the first place. Why not just be straight about it? Be honest. He had a prime gig with corporate players all lined up. Just go ahead and put the word out that he wanted free help in building his set for the Google Music -T-Mobile Event?

    No harm. No foul.

Because that's ALL he was ever interested in.

    Free help.

He doesn't give a shit about artists. Period.

Like Mr. EVERYONE up above...spare me the happy horseshit about making an entrance into the gallery world, interested buyers and tons of celebrities seeing your work.

    FTS.

I can only speak for myself, as to what it was about. What it was supposed to be about. What it could have been. No need to repeat it.

    There will be no artshow.

A NoShow is more like it.

I was at the space yesterday afternoon, the place was being gutted as I walked through it. I won't go into the details just now as I'm curious to see how this thing will play out in days to come.

In the meantime, Thierry has a boatload of l'argent along with some major karma coming down the road.

    Carry on.

  13. FWT cant deal with things very well..So upset and argumentative about this little post on a blog about a building and an art show blah blah blah...
Calm down-none of this really matters that much-JEEZ!
Somebody get some tissue for the whiner..Oh-and thank you for allowing us to"Carry On" your excellency.

  14. Are we forgetting that he made a billboard for his 'art show'? Do we really think he did all this to get free art for a corporate party? I'm pretty sure that if he had wanted a bunch of free art on his walls he could have just said "Mr. Brainwash wants artists to take over his warehouse for a corporate event" and the exact same artists would have shown up. He's a keen business man but he's not some evil genius who's tricking everyone. Don't we put stuff up when no one wants us to? Why wouldn't we do it when we're given permission? Let's be real, MBW doesn't have to trick the artists of LA into putting stuff up in his space, he just has to ask. The conspiracy theories just seem silly to me. Give it a few more weeks and we'll hear about an opening.

  15. FTW, you said earlier in this thread that "FWT said...

Showing that you had some faith in him making the show actually happen for the public. Then you have a sudden change of heart and then say its not happening. Maybe it isnt happening, but we all signed a release form and like i always say, caveat emptor... buyer beware - so we all knew that something like this could happen and it was a risk we all took, whatever if that the case karma will catch up to him eventually. Im not sure how you know Mr. Brainwash's intentions and if you can read his mind, or if you have some insider scoop, but I would go so far as to saying all the things you said in your previous post unless you know that for a fact. as for you seeing the space being gutted, ok maybe hes not doing it, but i wouldnt go ahead and speak about it as if the project is totally dead. Anyway, I'm done with all this Art Show2011 stuff, I had a good time putting my shit up, meeting other artists and the experience was a great one. So for that I am greatful. I hope you are wrong about this FWT, but knowing how perverse the art word is, your may be right.

    Anyway, stay up.

  16. FTW sounds like a girl and I quote-

"you sound like a real dick."

Such a chick thing to say.LOL!!
Dead giveaway..She contradicts herself many times leading me to believe she is also uneducated. So sad..

  17. The place being "gutted"means nothing because theres really NOTHING in there except for rented party crap and lighting equipment etc. put in for the event. Thats what theyre probably removing Einstein. You sound too obsessed with this Artshow2011-just making up shit based on observations and not fact- And you try to come off as if you are so Anti MBW and core about some kind of "community" that only exists in your conspiracy filled little mind FWT. There is no community-a blog maybe but community- no m'am.

  18. FTW - ya lil bitch... this is you right now - "WAH WAH WAH! my art isn't gonna be seen and it definitely cant be seen on the streets because Im just a weekend warrior "graffiti artist", and never get up illegally! I learned graffiti off of the internet in 2003 and I got a BLACKBOOK, hey dude wanna hit up my blackbook? What do you write? YO I WRITE FTW, it stands for Fuck The World (because i am a pessimistic lil baby who wants to lick MBW's nuts because Im a girl too" Thats me quoting something that you probably say everyday when you wake up in the morning. hahahaha cry little baby, cry!!!!! WWAHHHHH WAHHHH WAHHH - Im the 99% and i waste my useless time camping out in front of city hall to accomplish some ridiculously ambiguous goal that will never be realized (thats me being you again ya lil buster!)

  19. Typical attitude for a Oner. Just add an L for LONER. No crew, Zero backup.
And you yourself wrote FWT-Fuck World The? Did you have a stroke or is it just common dyslexia?
You seem to go off on bizarre tangents and generalizations in an effort to claim to know peoples whole M.O. based on a comment on a blog.
How do you think you know how long someones been writing based on nothing? Try 1987 over here you annoying bottom feeding scrawler who jocks this blog so hard that she feebly attacks people with psychotic rants to feel 'hard'. And Im not stupid enough to post my tag online so the Sheriffs can get my URL and bust me either.
You sound sad and frustrated. I myself think its funny that I can make you that angry. Its too easy..LOL!!!

  20. Does anybody have a link for the release form MBW used for this?
I'd like to have a read of it.

  21. My art is up in there and I didn't sign anything. There was no way in hell I was signing it. I dont think 7th letter guys are going to be happy about this.

    ReplyDelete
  22. The 7th letter guys wouldn't have touched the place before they received full disclosure from MBW on his plans for the space. Are you retarded? TSL has mad authority, no one is gonna son them and they wouldn't allow it.

They have some of the best management out there, some have better management than MBW does.... Plus they have all the big artists (Sherpard, Banksy, Kenny Scharf, etc...) and Roger Gastman (who played an integral part in putting on MBWs first show) and Jeffrey Deitch(the man who has elevated graffiti art to what it is today and is a MAJOR player in the international Modern Art world) all behind them. TSL crew has MAJOR representation on their side and make many of the decisions in the LA graff scene.

No way MBW would diss them, if anything, they would be consulting MBW and telling HIM what to DO. They are the invisible hand of the Los Angeles street art scene.

Step into the Arena - Know the scene kids.
