End of an Era?
The building that was the former De La Barracuda on Melrose continues to get buffed down to the bare bones.
This spot has been one of the seminal spots for street art and graffiti in Los Angeles for quite some time, but by the way the building keeps getting more and more buffed, it seems that the new tenants do not want to carry on with the street art tradition. Is this the end of the era?
Seems strange to buff the wall, as many of the pieces out front were paid for as advertising space, which must have brought in a tidy sum of money.
Even if the art wall at Barracuda is officially over, the owners might find that it is difficult to keep it white.
After years and years of posters and murals, sure these walls could tell some stories if they could talk!

This is wack. Hopefully they're just priming it for more art in the future. Otherwise, they're in for a rough stay.
ReplyDeleteIt's crazy how thick the layers are.

It will be fun to see how this plays out.
