Thug Life Meets Hug Life

Graffiti in downtown Los Angeles where a mural by some hardcore graffiti writers like Ruets, Spurn and Ewsoe, also gets joined by 'Hug Life' elements like the rooftop piece from Philip Lumbang and the dumpster tag from Louis Cannizzaro--the first street action glimpsed on the street from Louis XXX.

We had a great time visting the Door 2 Door Adore live painting event at the Portfolio 360 Gallery yesterday. The paint off between Gregory Siff and Louis Cannizzaro was more of a love fest than a battle, largely due to the folks at Atelier360. The have made a great set up that includes a salon and gallery in separate, adjoining buildings. It is a supportive area for artists and art lovers and a large crowd kept rolling through the whole time we were there. We counted no less that 6 professional cameras covering the event (not including ours).

We have been big fans of Gregory's street art for a long time. We love the innocent, bright colors, and the meanings that Gregory attaches to them. It was also wonderful to meet Louis Cannizzaro. A cool guy and brilliant artist.

It was really great to talk with Gregory about art. He is truly 'renaissance' with many different artistic pursuits ranging from street art, to fashion to film. Gregory has shown MELROSEandFAIRFAX a lot of love, and we look forward to watching his career develop. We're convinced he's heading for big things, and we look forward to saying we knew him way back when we saw his live painting sessions~

Door 2 Door Adore

Don't have plans for the weekend?

Well, head down to Melrose to do some xmas shopping, and make sure to swing by and catch a live painting battle featuring Gregory Siff squaring off against Louis Cannizzaro.

At the event, two giant doors will be suspended from the ceiling and the artists will engage in a paint-off.

This all goes down starting at 3 pm @ the New Portfolio Gallery, located at 7655 Melrose Ave.

We will be there (with Shasta and/or Qtip). Stop by and say hello~
