RTH - Cocky
The RTH Crew gets painted in South Los Angeles.
The post is titled 'Cocky' because a proud looking rooster and his hens were strutting around this spot during the painting.
RTH also has reason to be cocky, being one of the first graffiti crews to embrace all methods of getting up, even pasters. Like here, where Kiosk to the left has a graffiti piece riding and pasters next to it on the cut away.
With more action from Branded, Rekoil, Lukas and Realm.

Bringing Banksy's Eternity to Life
There have been some really fascinating human interactions with Banksy's art in New York. But this gif brings Banksy's art to life in a different way.
Another dope animation from Gramvino. This one features Banksy's 'Eternity' piece, and the movement really brings the piece to life.

Cyrcle - TryUMPHant
Cyrcle has been traveling all over the world painting and doing art. Now, Cyrcle returns back home to Los Angeles to triumph, and they do so with a giant new commission mural on Santa Monica Blvd. entitled 'TryUMPH'.
The mural was a collaboration with musician Woodkid's music inspiring Cyrcle's imagery. Cyrcle describes the piece this way:
The piece is inspired by the story behind Woodkid's music, only now being told through our aesthetic. The Woman represents the Boys mother, she is longing for the child she once had in her arms and worried about his safety and wellbeing out in the world. The Warriors represent monsters and obstacles along the boys journey. Yoann's music has spoken to us since we heard "Iron" a while back. He's not just a musician or a directer or a designer he's an artist all the way, love that shit about him! We connect deeply with the Boy in his films, forging our way through the world as artists navigating through the monsters of LosAngeles and the world! Try, Fail, TryUMPH. Ultimately we strive for happiness and success through our work. Faith, courage, honor, and power. Runboy RUN!
-CYRCLE.
Dig it. This can be found on Santa Monica Blvd., a couple blocks East of Highland.
Stay up and stay 'TryUMPHant'~

How Long Does Respect Ride on Legal Murals?
The city of Los Angeles has begun permitting murals, making them legal on the streets of LA once again.
However, even the city's support won't stop rogue street and graffiti artists from going over legal walls if the artists see fit.
But the thing is, most of the time street and graffiti artists don't paint over legal murals. Whether it is out of respect for the artist, the skills, or just supporting the arts, most of the time, legal murals don't get painted over.
But sometimes they do. Like here. This captures Kyote LTS capping over another graffiti writer who painted over this long riding mural on Venice Blvd. Its been riding so long that the paint is fading and chipping. There are a few other tags, but still, the majority is not bombed over.
How long does respect ride for legal murals? What are the 'street' guidelines for capping over legal work?

New Kobra Mural in Hollywood - Mother Teresa, Nelson Mandela & Martin Luther King Jr.
The Brazilian muralaist, Eduardo Kobra, just finished painting yet another incredible mural in Los Angeles.
This one is located on Highland Ave., and it features giant oversized portraits of Mother Tereza, Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King Jr.
The artistry and talent that Kobra flaunts in these pieces is truly amazing. Its like he is toying with the idea of painting a mural and at the time setting the bar so high that few can compete on this level. Kobra not only paints likenesses on huge scale with impeccable detail, Kobra adds his signature checkerboard color patterns with prismatic precision.

JR - Angry Old Man
A giant, larger-than-life paster from JR featuring an angry looking old man.
But this old man looks like quiet a character. Guess that is one measure of successful art, something that changes the way people think about old people. These are not old men. Each is an old man with a lifetime of personal stories.
This piece has been riding since 2011 in Glendale. Click the link for more pics

Eduardo Kobra Mural on La Brea - Close Up!
Here is a closer look at Eduardo Kobra's Einstien mural on La Brea.
Incredible work with a spray can. Sometimes, a closer look can reveal secrets and tips to how it all came together, but with this mural, everything is too blended and rendered to see specific strokes. Still, each little frame is beautiful in its own way.

Kobra - First Bite's So Nice, Had to Try It Twice!
If Eduardo Kobra lived up to his last name, it might be worth it to get bit by his venom. Twice.
M&F already posted initial pics of Kobra's mural on La Brea. But the artwork is so spectacular, that it deserves a return feature with a deeper view.
Seriously incredible talent displayed here on many levels.
It is interesting to note that this actual mural was painted on the building itself. There were actually plywood pieces attached to the wall, and this mural was painted on top of those. So, theoretically, this mural could be removed from the wall. What's underneath? Kobra's previous mural, featuring a colorfully stylized Mt. Rushmore, is still riding underneath this one.
Click the jump for more pics of Kobra's color laden plaid Einstein.

LA Wants New Murals - Let the Art Begin!
Call for Wall Artists
The Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA) is seeking artists and artist teams interested in creating a permanent and/or temporary art projects for large scale, outdoor walls in the City of LA. This Request for Qualifications (RFQ) is open to professional artists working with any medium, style or technique –i.e. murals, aerosol, mosaics, paints, stencils, stickers, wheatpasting, woodblocking, light and/or video projection.
This RFQ is open to professional artists and artist teams living and working in the County of Los Angeles. Artists must demonstrate the vision, past experience and professional qualifications required to create public art for City walls –a process that includes public presentations, production oversight and execution of artwork in the public realm.
For details and the complete Request for Qualifications, see the attached PDF.
The deadline is Monday, November 4, 2013.Well, the legal wrangling took years, but less than a week after LA finally adopted new rules to once again allow art murals in this city, the art is already ready to begin!
The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs just released a public call for wall artists. Let the art begin!
The red tape and bureaucracy involved might be more than most street artists are used to, but the reward seems worth it as the projects are fully funded and the murals done by selected artists will be protected forever.
Check out the general description above, then click the jump to check out the full requirements and contact information for artist participation.
Excited to see the new art in LA. Stay up, Los Angeles!
