Behind the Scenes in the Creation of Teacher's Billboard

To ring in 2013, Teacher did something that arguably no street artist has done before.  He didn't just take over a billboard, he made his own billboard.  Its quite impressive, and you can check out the finished pics HERE.

M&F also has some exclusive behind-the-scenes shots of how Teacher's custom billboard was made.  Seeing these shots makes one appreciate Teacher's skill in transforming construction scraps into workable art.  Teacher says that everything used was salvaged from the streets, except for the cement used to hold the piece up.

Interactive Map of Illegal Billboards in Los Angeles

The city of Los Angeles finally compiled a list of all the billboards in Los Angeles.  From that info, KCET compiled an interactive map for online viewers to check out.

It is interesting to note that over 1/3 of all billboards in LA have possible code violations, and a full 10% of billboards have no permit on file.

Some street artists might feel vindicated in hitting some of these illegal billboards.  It would be nice if the city changed its focus and started prosecuting street artists and started going after the corporate criminals.  Guess that might happen once street artists start giving campaign contributions.

But seriously, it would be nice if LA quit persecuting street artists and started going after the real neighborhood vandals--illegal billboards.
