This Is The Place - (For Humping Grasshoppers)

Really love this Grasshopper Sticker series because the insect is a big part of Salt Lake's heritage.

When Brigham Young first laid eyes on the Salt Lake Valley he reportedly said "This is The Place", and the Mormons began settling the area.

As legend has it, when the time for the first harvest came up, swarming grasshoppers of Biblical proportions descended on Salt Lake and began eating the crops.

The grasshoppers were going to eat through all the food for winter supply when a 'miracle' happened, and flocks of sea gulls showed up and ate the grasshoppers, thereby protecting the food supply and saving the Pioneers.

The seagull is now the state bird, and there is a monument to honor the seagulls in downtown SLC. (pictured below is Eagle Gate Monument and This Is The Place Brigham Young statue)

These grasshopper slaps are located at This is The Place monument in Salt Lake City- great, meaningful placement and another great example of street art in SLC .

Unknown Artist. Stay up~
