OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE:

5 JANUARY 2012
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WALE COMMISSIONS CUSTOM PAINTING FROM STREET ARTIST ALEC MONOPOLY

New York, NY — Andon Artists, LLC is thrilled to announce that the superstar Maybach Music Group rapper Wale has commissioned an original piece of artwork from renowned street artist Alec Monopoly.

Wale was first introduced to Alec Monopoly’s work by his agent Jesse Kirshbaum of The NUE Agency while down in Miami for his performance at LIV Nightclub with Santigold during Art Basel 2011. As luck would have it, Alec Monopoly was actually in attendance at the November 30th, 2011 concert, and when Wale’s representatives approached him about commissioning a custom piece of artwork he was both excited and drawn to Wale’s Maybach Music Group diamond pendant as an anchor to center the piece around.

Alec Monopoly used the design from his iconic DJ Monopoly painting that was first featured in his New York City Solo Exhibit in Fall 2010, created a background using the R&B/Hip-Hop Chart from the November 19th, 2011 issue of Billboard Magazine in which Wale’s album “Ambition” charted at #1 and painted a rendition of the Maybach Music Group diamond pendant that Wale was wearing during his Art Basel performance. To finalize the piece, Alec Monopoly added diamond dust to the Maybach Music Group pendant and shellacked the entire canvas with high gloss resin, as a form of social commentary on the flashiness and shine associated with being a famous rap star such as Wale.

It was a whirlwind year for ALEC MONOPOLY in 2011 with shows in Los Angeles, New York, London and Miami. ALEC MONOPOLY also designed the logo for Paramount Picture's new production company INSURGE, and was commissioned by Kiehl's to do a custom piece for their new store on the Upper East Side of Manhattan alongside notable street artist Shepard Fairy.

During Art Basel 2011, ALEC MONOPOLY received media attention when notable actor Adrian Brody purchased one of his works for over $20,000, which prompted the famous rapper WALE to commission a custom piece shortly after!

2012 doesn't show any signs of slowing down for the rising artist. ALEC MONOPOLY will be the first American street artist to have a solo exhibit on the continent of Africa, when his works are exhibited by Le Studio des Arts Vivants in Casablanca, Morocco this Spring, and look for big news in the coming weeks regarding his next US exhibit plans!

More about ALEC MONOPOLY: "Alec Monopoly" is the alias of an unidentified graffiti artist, originally from New York City. The artist primarily works in the urban environments of New York, Los Angeles, and London using varied materials (including stencils, spray paint, epoxies, varnishes and newspapers) to subversively depict the mascot of the board game, Monopoly. Alec Monopoly cites his artistic origins as learning from his mother, an artist, eventually abandoning traditional academically-driven art classes to pursue an individual methodology. Alec Monopoly and his work have been covered by The Huffington Post, the Wooster Collective, Juxtapoz magazine, Complex magazine, Spin Magazine and The Dirt Floor. Recently, Paramount Pictures commissioned Monopoly to design the logo for their new production company, Insurge. Subsequently, the artist was appointed to design a custom piece of art to be displayed in the brand new and soon to be opened Kiehl's store on Manhattan's Upper East Side, along with the works of other famous street artists, such as KAWS and Shepard Fairy.

  3. WTF is up with that logo? Its just the regular Paramount Pictures logo without the stars, and he added a stick figure in the "U". Very dissapointed by the logo, and the Wale piece is good, but its just a recycled image.
