Pics from Will Sergeant's 'My Own Worst Enemy'

M&F attended the opening of Will Sergeant's 'My Own Worst Enemy' solo art show at the Substrate Gallery over the weekend. The place was packed, and it was one of the best organized shows that we have ever been to. It was an exciting scene, and aptly felt like an art show with a concert vibe.

All kinds of people came out to the show, from celebrities and musicians like Moby, to clear fans of Will's from his musical conquest as guitarist in Echo and the Bunnymen (these were the guys wearing the Joy Division shirts!).

The art really was profound, and we have even more respect for the pieces after Will briefly described the motivations behind his iconic 'Switchblade' pieces. He said that when he was younger on tour, he and his bandmate picked up switchblade knives, which were illegal in Britain. He said that as he grew and matured in life, the switchblade had become a symbol less a symbol for being tough or a bad ass, and more of a glaring sign of how silly or stupid a person can be in their thriving youth. It was a real honor meeting Will, as we really admire the way that he is a great artist in different mediums (and with awesome nails!).

You can check out My Own Worst Enemy at the Substrate Gallery through June 16th.

Stay up!
