Described as a 'guerrilla installation', the pics M&F got sent for the preview show artistic nudes of naked girls in public. This is right down our alley. Two thumbs up with a big 'Dig it!'.

Los Angeles, Ca. – January 3, 2013 – Everyone and everything has a backstory, and Ernie Holzman’s has called upon his personal health journey as the impetus behind his most recent photographic exhibition, L.A. Backstory. The reflective assemblage of 25 original works goes on display Saturday, January 12, 2013 through Sunday, January 27, 2013 at the prestigious Known Gallery on North Fairfax in Hollywood.
According to Holzman, “I wanted to feel like a teenager again, to recapture a time when I felt completely invulnerable. And I wanted to have an adventure. Whatbetter adventure than to photograph a beautiful naked woman on the streets of Los Angeles all run-and-gun. No permits – all Guerilla style … just pure energy and optimism.”
L.A. Backstory marks Holzman’s second photo exhibition at Known Gallery. His previous sold-out installation – Under Over – was an intimate collection of fourteen photographs taken between 1966 to 1972, primarily in cities east of the Mississippi.
This exhibition is particularly profound, according to Casey Zoltan, Curator and owner of The Known Gallery. "Ernie was able to maintain a crucial invisibility as he worked on the streets of L.A. producing beautiful, intimate and revealing portraits which echoed his own fight with cancer. Art that is exciting and relevant to the human condition is an important aspect of our exhibitions at Known Gallery."
L.A. Backstory was conceived by a response to relive a time when Ernest Holzman felt invulnerable with all oflife’s possibilities on the horizon. Armed with a 60-year-old 4x5 view camera, Holzman traveled to his favorite locales in and around Los Angeles guerillastyle capturing cinematic images of a beautiful, healthy young woman named Carly, just as God made her, looking at the world.
“I shot Carly mostly from the back and watched with wonder as she looked ahead...perhaps seeing into the future. A 60-year-old photographer and a 60-year-old camera capturing one filmimage at a time; it was magical.” continued Holzman.
L.A. Backstory will unveil at a VIP preview on Saturday, January 12. It will then be open to the public January 13 – January 27, 2013. Known Gallery is located at 441 North Fairfax Avenue in Los Angeles.
Ernest Holzman completed his photography and music education at New York University, and later went on to study at the American Film Institute in Los Angeles. There, he was offered an opportunity to study with Jordan Cronenweth on the film Cutter's Way. Cronenweth’s respect for Holzman’s eye grew steadily and he offered him an opportunity to work on his next project, Blade Runner, after which Holzman spent the next few years working with Cronenworth learning about light. From there he began to distinguish himself as a prolificphotographer and cinematographer working on numerous television commercial campaigns. In 1989, he was offered his first dramatic work as a cinematographer on ABC’s award winning drama series thirtysomething. For the next twenty years, Holzman worked on many hit televisions shows, including ABC’s My So-Called Life, CBS’s Without a Trace and ABC Family’s critically acclaimed Huge. In 2001, he was honored by the American Society of Cinematographers for his work on the PBSdrama Cora Unashamed. Holzman and his wife Terry Anne and are currently writing screenplays together.
