. . . and Then the Strippers Showed Up!
Oh hell yeah. Once the strip club opened, the strippers came out to grab a picture with Banksy's Waiting In Vain. (or something else!)
This animated gif from Gramvino captures the male sentiment perfectly. It could be said, that Banksy's piece has come to life in a new way~

Banksy's Waiting in Vain - Instant Classic
Banksy's Waiting in Vain is an instant classic. Powerful image. Great execution. Perfect location. This has all the elements of an instant classic.
As M&F has pointed out before, there are all types of Banksy fans, and for the ones who just love the 'feel good' art, this will be a hit. This is an instant classic. Like Banksy's Balloon Girl, or his Flower Bomber. Expect to see this image on many tattoos, soon.
As for the location itself, it seems highly unlikely that Banksy could have executed this piece illegally. It is at a very high traffic area in the city that never sleeps, and the Hustler Strip Club where it was placed did not close until 4 in the morning. And after a strip club closes, then cleaners come to clean up before opening. (M&F knows this b/c we also live around the corner from a strip club). Finally, there are always security guards around strip clubs, and this one looks like it would have more than a few. In fact, there are already security guards protecting Banksy's piece. Not to mention security cameras. Basically, it seems highly unlikely that Banksy painted this piece illegally.
Will the fans care? No. Probably not. The fans who would care about this already have 'Ghetto 4 Life'. The fans who love this are the ones who will have this as the screen saver on their iPhones.
Click the jump to check out more pics. It will be interesting to see how long this lasts, before the shutter is taken?

Get Naked on Melrose!
A sexy 'freak chick' made all the boys crazy (even the gay ones like Cosmo!) during an almost naked photo shoot on Melrose.
M&F would like to think that we contributed in small part to the debauchery. At first, the girl was just taking clothed pics, but when we walked by we encouraged her to 'take it all off!' and then when we turned back around, that's exactly what they were doing!
Dig it. You never know what you are going to see on Melrose, but seeing undressing sexy girls in public is as good as it gets!~

"There are Plenty of These Stupid Spots All Over the City"
While spending a beautiful Los Angeles afternoon cruising the city and taking pictures of all its amazing art, on this particular day, M&F happened to encounter 2 different photo shoots using street art and/or graffiti as a background.
This is not unusual. Most days there will be someone posing in front of any big mural, and that speaks to the art. Everything from fashion shoots (like the one above) to photo shoots (like the one below) likes to utilize the streets for their background. However, do these people always understand and appreciate the street art and graffiti they are using?
In general, not really. This point was driven home when the model from the above shoot suggested hitting another location, and photographer responded "Let's do it! There are plenty of these stupid places around here!"
The disrespect the photographer showed demonstrates how most folks really feel about it. Sure, they want to use the art as background but they don't give a shit about the art itself. The art is just 'background'.
M&F has long been established as the most street of any street art blog anywhere. We pledge to you that graffiti and street art will never be 'background'. This is the most vital art movement the world has ever seen, and it will continue on unabated with or without 'stupid' fashion shoots or the photogs. They are just trying to clutch at the fame that this genre is creating for itself.
Fuck the half-hearts and the luke-warms. Street art is never background here. M&F has the heart and soul of LA's street scene down for the true artists. Maybe it should become our new motto, but when your back is against the wall, M&F has your back~.
Stay up, Los Angeles!

Sand One Goes HUGE in Miami
In so many ways, visiting Miami felt like home away from home.
Like with this mural here. It is literally right across the street from where M&F used to live, and it feels like Los Angeles.
This is probably the single biggest mural that we saw riding in Miami and it was from LA's own Sand One. Painting her 'Sand Girl' and accessories on a school building on N. Miami Ave.
Dig it. Stay up and stay goldn in Miami~

Street Art Speaks To and Connects With the Younger Generation
Graffiti is still illegal because the old folks just don't understand.
Street art speaks to and connects with the younger generation.
Here is a great on-the-street action sequence demonstrating just that when a young girl pops away from her friends to get an on the spot portrait taken with this street art.
