Santa Monica Sprint Jubilee Celebrates - BritWeek

Downtown Santa Monica, Santa Monica Place and Britweek will be hosting the 1st ever Santa Monica Spring Jubilee Celebration BritWeek next week.

As part of the celebrations, British living street legends Inkie and Eine will be painting live murals during the 2-day event, as will LA's own Mear One.

Downtown Santa MonicaSanta Monica Place & BritWeek will be hosting the first-ever Santa Monica Spring JubileeCelebrates BritWeek—a two-day spring festival celebrating the season and everything British on May 4th & 5th.

This year’s kick-off event will feature some of the world’s most celebrated artists who will be creating their work on blank canvases, live at the festival for two hours each day. Among those appearing will be two of London’s most prolific and original street artists,British artists EINE and Inkie, as well as Mear One, one of Los Angeles' most well-known street artists who revolutionized graffiti with his fine-art realism.  

KCET’s “Mike the Poet” will also perform live spoken word during Mear One’s two-hour painting session on Sunday. Following the event, the finished artwork will be on display throughout public buildings in Santa Monica and will then be auctioned off to Santa Monica based charities. The schedule is as follows:

Saturday May 4th
12:00pm-2:00pm      Inke *1200 block
2:30-4:30pm              Eine *1200 block
5:00-7:00pm              Mear One + DJ *1200 block

Sunday May 5th
12:00pm-2:00pm       Inke *1200 block
2:30-4:30pm               Eine *1200 block
5:00-7:00pm               Mear One + Mike The Poet *1200 block

Other artistic elements of the weekend will include fun photographs of spring by Jen Zahigian Photography and hand-painted gift cards of Santa Monica scenes by Pix Bi Jak.  There will also be a display of a Joint art project between London’s Art Belowpublic art program and LA's Best after school program.  Children were challenged to create a piece of artwork based on the theme of British culture.  188 schools participated in the contest and ten winners were selected. The selected winners' art will be exhibited at the Spring Jubilee.

Santa Monica Spring Jubilee Celebrates BritWeek will be held on Saturday, May 4th (10am-9pm) and Sunday, May 5th (10am-8pm). This fun-filled weekend will feature a remarkable collection of environmentally-focused vendors, gardens designed by leading landscape architects and designers, live entertainment, speakers and demonstrations, many with a distinctly British flair.  The event will span three blocks along the Promenade from Wilshire to Broadway, with the main stage located in Santa Monica Place.  Visit www.downtownsm.com/spring-jubilee for more information.
