YKMF & There She Is - Dreams Come True Through Street Art

For years before getting involved with street art, YKMF and There She Is have both spent their lives entrenched in the world of music.  Each is an accomplished musician and a huge fan in their own right, and one of their favorite band's of all time is Marilyn Manson.

Well, a few weeks ago, Twiggy Ramirez from Marilyn Manson made a comment on Instagram regarding an art photo from a piece that There She Is was working on.  Next thing you know, the huge rock star Twiggy Ramirez was sitting in the living room talking with the two artists.  Things went so well that Twiggy is now working with There She Is to release her designs on series of T-shirts.

Hell yeah!

This is such a huge deal because Twiggy was a hero to You Killed Me First and There She Is, and now street art helped make a personal connection.  Not only make that connection, but a long time hero is now a fan of their art work.  How cool is that?!

In celebration of the street of fortune, YKMF and There She Is hit the streets, fittingly, with a hand painted tribute to Twiggy Ramirez.  Dig it~

Huge congratulations to You Killed Me First and There She Is.  What a cool series of events, and such a huge honor to have a hero become of a fan of what you are doing with your life.

Teacher - Bomber Bowtie Boy

Teacher hits the streets with a brand new piece entitled 'Bomber Bowtie Boy'.  Two separate B2 bombers come together to form the boy's bowtie, meanwhile the peace sign tassel on the graduation cap represents teaching peace.  Because, Teacher asks, which is more important--teaching peace or building new bombers?

Street Art Show Fundraiser to Benefit Street Art Photographer & Fire Victim

Street art photographer and M&F contributor Kelly Reyes experienced a personal tragedy recently when the complex she lived was completely destroyed by fire.

Fortunately, Kelly and her family survived and most of their pets were saved too.  However, basically everything Kelly owned--including her camera used to snap street art photos, was lost in the fire.  Kelly and her family spent a week at a Red Cross shelter after the fire, and are now trying to get back on their feet.  But after such an unexpected blow, it is difficult in every way to get re-established.

Kelly was a big supporter of LA's street art scene.  She has a natural talent as a photographer, and Kelly contributed photos to M&F as kells_bells1_ru.

In an effort from the street art community to try and give back to Kelly, Ethos Gallery/Street Art Sactuary/Jennifer Korsen are sponsoring a pop up art show fundraiser.  The art show goes down on June 22nd at a pop-up location, 7020 Melrose Ave.  The line-up features an impressive selection of artists and the art is reportedly priced to sell.  All proceeds go to supporting Kelly, so its win/win to get a cool piece of art, and help support a good cause.

For those who cannot make the art show or are not in the area, there is also a web page set up to take donations for Kelly and her family.

Quality Gets Harvested

Perhaps no one works harder at getting up in Los Angeles than You Killed Me First and There She Is.  Each piece that hits the streets is immaculately hand painted.

Truly, each street piece is a work of art in its own right, so its no surprise that someone might want one.  What is surprising, is how many get taken.  It seems that nearly every time YKMF and There She Is get up on the streets, the pieces almost always get taken, not buffed.

Like here.  These pieces were posted at this spot last month on M&F (YKMF HERE & There She Is HERE).  However, at two separate times recently, people--or the same person, removed both pieces from the box.  The pics below demonstrate that transition.

Since nearly every piece gets harvested, either there must be a lot of pieces from YKMF and There She Is riding on apartment walls in Hollywood, or someone must have a massive collection of art work.

But always dig the work of both artists, and their drive to keep getting up despite getting taken.
