Wooster Collective Is Also 'A Celebration of Street Art' -- UPDATE
Of course it is.
The Wooster Collective has long been a major proponent of street arts. The site has been around since 2001 and is the top ranked street art blog in the world. And of course Wooster celebrates the arts. It even says on Wooster's home page that it is 'dedicated to showcasing and celebrating ephemeral art placed in streets and cities around the world'. Which is great and why we love Wooster.
Wooster was a big inspiration for MELROSEandFAIRFAX when we were just starting out. And as far as we are concerned, there can't be enough celebrating of street art, but the phrase 'A Celebration of Street Art' was coined by MELROSEandFAIRFAX when we first started the blog and dubbed it 'A Celebration of Street Art in Los Angeles'. Since then, MELROSEandFAIRFAX has grown to be the #2 ranked street art blog in the world, second behind only Wooster. But last week, Wooster Collective introduced a new masthead banner, designed by Roisin Gaffney, also calling Wooster 'A Celebration of Street Art'.
Like we say, of course it is. And there can't be enough celebrating of street art. We aren't starting any beef at all, but we do think it is humorous that Wooster did change their motto to match ours~
We give credit to Wooster for phrases like 'going big'. And M&F has already coined such phrases like 'Get Up, Stay Up.'. Hope that 'the celebration of street art' is a phrase that catches on, as well.
Stay celebratin'~
***UPDATE: Apparently Wooster Collective has been a 'Celebration of Street Art' for a long time. Just got sent the flyer shown from RJ at Vandalog. It is from 2003 and describes is a 'Celebration of Street Art.' So, Wooster clearly didn't jock the motto, and we didn't coin it. Still, hope it catches on and people keep celebratin' street art!***

Celebrations consist of many different flavors. I love all these street art sites. Each one unique, in many different ways but all are great sources of inspiration!

Couldn't agree more with Herbert. Was looking @ Wooster collective before I saw this. Love that site.
ReplyDeletepretty sure Wooster coined it first.
ReplyDeleteThey have used that slogan for longer than this site has existed. Watch "Exit Through the Gift Shop" and you'll see the site (Wooster and their slogan) dated 1996, or 1997.

Wooster has had this as their slogan for a lot longer. Sorry M&F but this blog entry is incorrect. Might want to take this one back and show respect where respect is due. With that said, Thank you for staying true to the LA scene and keep up the amazing work. you guys rock.
