No Respect

LA's hottest, most active street art spot gets painted over with a lame mural.

The art wall on Traction has been one of the hottest single walls for street art in Los Angeles. It has ridden for years, and is always changing with a constant turnover of new art pieces. Literally, every day or two, fresh new pieces appear on this wall.

All of LA's biggest artists roll through here with regularity. And, the wall is semi-legal, which seems to get encourage a lot of other artists to share their art here. It is a relatively safe place, away from the true dangers of the street.

Well, the entire wall got painted over last week with a giant mural. Strangely enough, the entire wall was painted over except an excerpt from an old Bankrupt Slut poster saying 'respect'. Clearly, painting over hundreds of artists to paint a mediocre mural shows absolutely no respect.

This looks poorly planned all the way through. Even when the writers try to sign their names, they spaced it wrong and the last letter 'E' had to be placed below the rest of the name 'Erag-e' (Erage) and Dalve.

The mural is not completely awful, but the placement is. Seriously, find the side of a gas station in Anywhere, USA to paint your oversized walrus and octopus. Because no one in the street art community cares.

Hope this quickly gets filled back up with posters and real street art, if it hasn't been already.

  4. Why? cuz somepone actually freehanded something instead of going to Kinkos and running off computer done imagery, you're hating on THAT? WOW? Just cuz its not a wheatpaste? Who said that that was a rule? Look at Barracuda-its ALL graf lately and nobodys crying about that. Those artists should not be hated because Ive seen alot worse posters than that grafitti ocean theme piece the did.

  6. Only real reasons why some of you are hating, is because this was a "SAFE" spot.

  7. Mix it up. Art is Art. Regardless of the media or type. Someone wants to put something up, fine. If it ain't better, Nice try. Roll it up and burn it with something better. The only bad thing would be if all we did was talk shit and complain.
