Drawing a Line in the Chalk

The LAPD heightens aggression towards chalk artists and fires rubber bullets into the crowd!

No doubt about it, the police are the bad guys!

Sure, there is a revolt in Syria.  But this example of police intimidation and abuse happened, check it, is happening right now on the streets of Los Angeles.

Last night at the downtown Art Walk, OWS protesters engaged in the legal behavior of writing messages on the sidewalk, and streets, with chalk.  Even the LAPD spokespeople say that chalking is not illegal since it is not permanent.  Still, the police on the ground didn't seem to get the message and arrested multiple people for chalking, in addition to open hostilities by firing rubber bullets into the crowd.

People in downtown LA for the Artwalk and who were not protesters were fired on with rubber bullets from the LAPD.

What the fuck!?!  Has the US regressed back into civil rights abuse tactics?  By the way, the same tactics that helped fuel the civil rights revolution.  And we hope the pics and stories of police brutality in Los Angeles will do the same.

The police might be there to protect and serve, but society needs to ask whom exactly they are protecting and serving because it isn't the citizens of this great city.  And people might not like the what Occupy Wall Street has to say, but it is clear that in situations like this, the police are the bad guys.

  1. That is really lame. It reminds me of China and Tienanmen Square. They are simply protecting the interest of the big corporations and their ad campaigns. They probably don't even know it. Remember police officers are not hired because they are smart. They are hired to follow orders from the top. It works like this. If people can express themselves they will not need to pay big companies to advertise and that screws up the big corporations plans. Notice the keds billboard on Melrose and Genessee. The minute that went up suddnenly the wall was cleaned and then re cleaned by who?? the big corporate ad company that is who. This is bulshit we need to continue our protest. Wall street and the big boys cannot keep this up forever. Long live the revolution... Long live true freedom forever!!!
