Top That Spot Jack

Folks are talking about maybe Destroy All Design spot jacking Obey on the other side of this building, and someone asked if Alec is doing a spot jack by hitting the other side.

We are curious what people think is a spot jack?

Click the jump for more pics and info

On this side of the building, high up rooftop street art from Alec Monopoly, Septerhed, AJL, KS.

Not sure who this new face is from Alec?

  2. I feel that Alec didn't spot jack Fairey, it's a different side of the building. If you are driving north you see Alec and south you see Fairey.

For me spot jacking is posting up right beside a piece. Also when great artist like Fairey and Alec put up a great piece like this and someone comes along with a shitty small poster that you can't even make out from far away is totally fucked up.

Save that shit for your bedroom walls!

  3. It's called GETTING UP not spot jacking. There really is no such thing.

This is just a new term for all these haters, dickriders and wannabees. If you don't like what you see, do it better. Stop creating words that do not exist to pacify your artistic inadequacies.

  4. It's called getting up. There is no such thing as spot jacking.

Thats just some bullshit word haters, toys, dick riders and other frustrated people create just to claim fame.

  5. I don't even know. Honestly never heard of it until today. Apparently "spots" are "owned" by other "street artists". Anyone who goes near them is a "spot jacker". Its difficult to figure out. As an artist...I make art and put it on the street. I don't know all the "rules". This one seems a bit silly to me. Street art is nothing but spot jacking... There aren't rules...and there was never any disrespect intended. I'm trying to figure out if the comments are from just the street art police...or actual people who just don't like me. Which is fine. I know I can't get along with everyone. It's interesting...never heard the term before....nor have I ever had any beef with any other street artist. I don't understand why people are saying some of the things they are saying...maybe i should have reviewed the content, size and location of my piece with them beforehand. GET UP! BUT DON'T SPOT JACK!!!!

  7. for me it's the more the merrier!! spot jacking is another term for crowding someone's territory. unless you write for a gang for territory/turf then i dont really see it as spot jacking at all. the streets are for everybody. with so many ppl getting up these days its hard not to combo it up. shit i think its smart thinking to post up next to other artists, but respect the space and do your best. that what street art is! one huge collaboration!!! cheers

  9. I believe the term you are looking for is "sidebuster". But that is in the graff world...

Internet egos, tough-guy beef. Too fucking funny. You guys are lame. Go argue about something else. This is art. This isn't politics. We aren't debating abortion, or the existence of god. IF YOU DONT LIKE IT, DONT LOOK! SIMPLE!

  10. I'm no expert, but some of you people are missing the point...the alec and obey are the dominant spots.they hold themselves on their own. the little other shit put up next to them is competing for attention and failing miserably. good for you all for getting up on the building, but cant you see how your failing visually?!!
good discussion going on this topic though...hopefully people will take it all in and consider their placements more carefully.

oh and the alec piece looks like christian bale from american psycho....

  13. God damn it. The term is "SPOT JOCK" not "SPOT JACK." Spot jack would imply you STOLE the spot. SPOT JOCK means your sidebusting NEXT TO someone else. This rule rarely applies to stickers- but definitely applies to rooftops and heaven spots.

Learn the unwritten code and try and be more creative with original placements. AMEN. You're welcome.

  14. WOW, just lost a lot of respect for Septerhed and Los Angeles. If you dont know whats up with spot jocking or sidebusting (which is not a new term) you shouldnt be putting your shit up on the street. I mean this is the kind of shit you got kicked in the head for back in the day.
    Los Angeles has gone soft.
Neo Street art has ruined graffiti.
    This town needs an enema!!!!!

  15. everyone should shut up. your art sucks, my art sucks, if you are only putting up "art" to get your name on a blog or to try and make money... then youre a tool.

  17. Like it or leave it, “Exit through a gift shop” has put street art center stage. And with that brings out thousands of new wannabe artists that lack not only the rules and respect of the street, but the talent and vision that many of today’s big artists took years to perfect.

It’s like the grunge movement of the 90’s. Along came Nirvana and everyone and their mother started their own grunge band. Did this bring us tons of great music? No… it brought thousands of shit bands that ended up killing the whole scene.

But that’s life! There are followers and leaders. Do something considered “cool” and people will follow.

Fairey and Banksy have turned street art into a household name and with that there are tons of followers that not only copy their style, but also copy their spots.

This post is about one thing… it shows how these artist failed miserably next to a world famous artist like Fairey… not only with the size of their work but the overall vision. I could easily go photo copy my ass on an 8x10 at kinkos and throw it up next to Fairey’s piece for the sack of just “getting up” like everyone keeps point out…. But what for? It’s still just shit! Does posting tons of shit all over the street make you an artist? If so I’m off tonight to bomb the streets with my hairy white ass.

Maybe my stuff will make this blog? And maybe I can even do my own show like MBW and sell my hairy white ass for millions?

  18. @ BRAINWASH MY FACE DOUCHE....

YOU SOUND LIKE ONE OF THESE FOLLOWERS THAT ONLY SUPPORTS ARTISTS THAT HAVE MADE IT. JUMPING ON THE OBEY WAGON IS SO 2005. IF YOU'RE WILLING TO CLIMB UP AN EIGHT STORY BUILDING TO POST A PIC OF YOUR WHITE HAIRY ASS UP THERE, DO US A FAVOR AND PUT YOU FACE NEXT TO IT. LET'S SEE IF WE COULD TELL THE DIFFERENCE....JACKASS.

    KISSES
