Boom! Graffiti Like a Hollywood Punch in the Face!

Boom!  Graffiti like a punch in the face for Hollywood!

Many times, street art and graffiti is more exciting wondering how did they do that than what the image is.  And this is what we are talking about!

Klozer and Blune(?) go HUGE on this heaven on the 101 Freeway.  This is in the hottest of hot spots, just as the 101 leaves Hollywood.

Crazy impressive spot.  With all the barbed wire, and fencing, and heights, its a wonder how these graffiti writers managed to hit so hard and go so big.

Dig it~  Stay up!

Graffiti is a Life or Death Activity

There are numerous risks associated with being an active graffiti writer, and unfortunately every so often there comes an instance of an especially tragic consequence.

Last night, the CNS News Service is reporting that a graffiti artist fell from a 3 story building in the Alvarado area of downtown Los Angeles.  The injuries he received have left the young artist brain dead.

There is no word as to whether the diagnosed brain damage is permanent, or if there is any hope for a potential recovery.  Such a sad situation for a young life.  Our thoughts and wishes are with this young man.

Not sure who the artist was, but based on the fact that he was hitting 3rd story buildings, it seems he had been getting up and making a name.

The full press release is below:

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A 19-year-old man who was tagging a three-story
building in the Westlake district of Los Angeles fell to the ground and was
declared brain dead this morning, police said.
The victim fell around 2:30 a.m. after he climbed a tree to reach the
building at the intersection of Beverly Boulevard and Union Place, said Sgt.
Melvin Gamble of the Los Angeles Police Department's Rampart Station.
The man was taken to a hospital, where he was declared brain dead,
Gamble said.

Get Up, Stay Up (Heaven)

Its always cool to see a big piece of graffiti up on a billboard. Its called a heaven, and this heaven is especially cool because it is not just one writer, but a showcase of big name artists.

Blank Banksy Billboard

Banksy's billboard takeover was taken down yesterday.

Here is a shot of the new lonely looking blank space.

What a rude awakening to the dream!

***BTW, we hear there was a big crowd and some real drama when the piece came down. Anyone have more pics or info?***

Banksy is Livin' the Dream!

According to the Wooster Collective, the impressive billboard takeover we posted last night was orchestrated by Banksy.

Maybe this impressive graffiti billboard takeover will help quiet Team Robbo and the haters, and give Banksy his long due and well earned street cred.

Our sources tell us that there are 4 new pieces of work from Banksy in LA, and MELROSEandFAIRFAX has had the exclusive first drop on 3/4. So there is at least one more out there to find!

Stay tuned to M&F for the latest and greatest from Banksy in LA, and click the jump for more pics and info.

Big Obey Street Art in Los Angeles

We caught some construction workers doing some work right next to a big piece of Obey street art right on Sunset.

We love these shots. They really capture the size and sheer ballsiness it takes to hit a spot like this.

The dumpster is slammed with tags, too, but can't really see cause of the shadow.

Love the palm trees in this pic.

Jems

Last year, it seemed like a new piece of rooftop graffiti from Jems was going up every few days.

Jems is riding high here with this heaven.

With a SmogCity sticker above the buff on the front pole.

Naut Heaven

Naut got up high to hit this heaven on the back of a billboard.

The piece to the left is interesting. It looks like the letters were buffed by another writer who just went over the whole thing with a light shade of blue.
