Thank You X - Not Art Made Worse

Thank You X has made a career out of Andy Warhol's image.  But its not really art.  After all, the image is an already famous and well recognized photo of Andy Warhol.  Thank You X just adds his name and puts the stencil somewhere in the city.  Its not really art, this is more of an activity.

But it gets worse.  Someone, assumably not Thank You X, but someone else came an 'decorated' a sidewalk stencil of Andy Warhol.  Its a simple matter of tracing lines and coloring areas in, but this piece is massacred worse than a 5-year old's coloring book after a new box of crayons.

Even if its on the streets, its not all art.  There might be some redeeming value in the act as activity, but for the viewer, there is none apparent.  This is 'not art' made worse.

Neckface - Sorry, Bro

Neckface catches a tag that will ride forever--or at least what the street equivalent of that is anyway. Here Neckface gets etched deep into some fresh sidewalk cement on La Brea, along with a host of other pedestrians.

Neckface writes 'Sorry, bro', assumably to the person he crossed out to go so big.

All You Need is the Right Kind of Love

After a sidewalk stencil from Plastic Jesus got tagged over by another red stencil saying Banksy = $$$$, Plastic Jesus got some help from a friend, Teacher.

Instead of directly capping it back, Teacher came along and got up on the sidewalk next to it with a blue stencil that says 'All you need is the right kind of love'.

That mantra is something that Teacher believes in deeply and applies to his own life.  Indeed, it is the same words from the tattoo going up Teacher's arm.

Dig it.  Keep teachin' the right kind of love!

Someone's Always Riding Coat Tails

Whenever someone makes waves, someone else seems to always want a piece of the action.

Like here.  Chod brewed up a special recipe to secure this giant wheat paste to the ground.  The method has worked for weeks on end, and so someone had to come and put a little 8x11 right in the middle of Chod's piece?

Seriously?  What is wrong with people?  Find a spot to put art without trying to ruin something else.  Street art is about making the environment better, and stuff like this does not contribute.

Make your own waves instead of spot jocking someone else's.

Chod - Still Riding Strong

Recently, some comments were made suggesting that this sidewalk paster by Chod was not working out.

As you can see, these current pics show that Chod's piece is still riding strong.  Like an animal.  There is a minor crack at a spot where there is a hole in the cement underneath, but for all intents and purposes, this method of sidewalk pasting seems to have worked successfully.

As far as we know, this 36x24 paster is the largest sidewalk paster to be successfully placed for longer than a few weeks.

Chod - Evolution of Animal

Chod's experiment to seal a giant 36" paster to the ground appears to have worked.

Its a couple of days later, and there are still some spots of Chod's plasticizing material pooled up where it is still damp, but the majority of the poster appears to be solidly affixed to the ground.

Its like watching the evolution of an animal.  As far as we know, this is the biggest version of this being done illicitly, anywhere.

Funny how the spreading plasticizer looks like a splattered money shot hitting Chod's poster.

Chod - Don't Fuck With It

Chod is experimenting with new methods of securing art to the sidewalks.

This is not wheat paste, but a plastic that will seal the art to the ground once it dries.  However, it appears that the secret recipe takes a while to dry, and so Chod placed caution cones and plastic tape around the piece protecting it.

These shots were taken this morning.  Not sure what the fate of this piece turned out to be?
