Banksy's Caution - How Many Are There?!
It is clear that the earlier piece we had reported found is not the same location as the piece on the Banksy website.
Is this 'found' one a real Banksy? or a fake? We just received an exclusive close-up of this found one. Click the jump to compare and contrast the pics of the new one with the pic released on Banksy's website.
The above pic is from the 'found' Caution piece. The pic below is a cropped shot of the pic released on Banksy's website. Although the application is a little different, it appears to us that these are both pieces from Banksy.
So, if there are at least 2, it begs the question- How many Banksy 'Caution' pieces are there?
The found one is located at Flower St and Washington Blvd. Big thanks to Cindy Bolf for sending us the detailed picture of the found piece. She says there is "no dripping." Thanks Cindy~

Sooooo, on a hunch i decided to call the number that is on the flyer in spanish on the phone booth in the picture of the Crossing Family on Banksy's website. I thought maybe finding out where that business is located would give a smaller radius to check. Well the number has been changed or no longer in service. I don't know if other people had called before I did and they shut it off, or if it's old but another lead leads to a dead end...
ReplyDeleteYes, my friend called yesterday too - their HQ is on Wilshire around the UCLA area - 10850 Wilshire Blvd #1400 Los Angeles, CA 90024, and they have another location in Lawndale too - 15342 Hawthorne Blvd Lawndale CA, 90260. Using Google's street view and going down a ways, it looks like the telephone poles match up on Sepulvida, but I didn't look too extensively. It can't be TOO far from the flyer's location. I may cruise around there later today. I also saw that same Jack billboard on Pico between Fairfax & La Brea, and also on Fairfax just north of Pico.
ReplyDeletejust posted my pics of the one on washington on my flickr...check it

I just went by the Caution on flower and someone has thrown paint all over it. Whats wrong with the people in this city?
ReplyDeleteThe Jack billboard is also on Washington (cross street is Santee) a few blocks away from the Caution piece on Washington & Flower. I didn't see anything there though.
ReplyDeleteI also called the number yesterday. They said their main office is in W. Hollywood. I asked about their posted ad and I said that I found it on the street. I asked if there was a particular location as to where they leave their ads, and they said that they were posted all over the place. Nada.
ReplyDeleteI think I'll try Sepulveda today. I saw the one on Flower and Washington and something about seeing it person makes me think it's not him. May be totally wrong but that other one HAS to be found soon, right? I only have a few more days off of work, so I need to get in as much hunting as I can! I really hope there's one more day where new pieces come out before the Oscars!
ReplyDeletekeep it up keith!
ReplyDeleteSo I went to Banksy's website to save the photo of the caution sign to study the background some more. When I saved it I noticed the designer of Banksy's website named it "kite-2.jpg" Possibly that does mean there's a kite-1 posted on the streets somewhere? Like the one on Washington?

To the person above, most pictures on Banksy's website have numbers at the end such as dog-wizz-2.jpg, crayon-boy-5-2. While you could be right I assume it's safer ro conclude it is photo 2 and not piece 2. They probably take a dozen or so shots and choose the best one.
ReplyDeleteWow KR-you are so right, good thinking. So it's possible the other one already found is indeed Banksy: kite-1...and now it's been defaced. not cool.
ReplyDeleteteal colored lamp posts in the original pic on banksy's web site. I know culver city has teal/greenish colored bus stops but i don't think they have colored lamp posts.

The real one is by a beach. I don't remember which beach has green light posts, but I'm telling you, that's where it is.
