Banksy Chasing the Dream to San Diego?

TMZ is reporting that 'Banksy Strikes Again' , but we are not quite convinced. Click the jump for more

This piece that just showed up in Oceanside features a Banksy-styled rat, wearing 'Exit Through the Gift Shop' start glasses, and holding a kite string to a sign that has the same image as the 'Kite' image that was first seen earlier this week.

Its not so much the location that makes us skeptical as much as the content. What we have seen from Banksy so far in LA has been new images that say something. It is not always clear exactly what, but he has done new stuff and not relied or used his classic characters like the rats or monkey holding a sign. And the fact that this piece is a combination of 3 different Banksy pieces, it makes it seem more like a fan tribute than a statement by Banksy.

Also, the shading is different, and a Banksy piece usually has the whole thing shadowed in the stencil, and the white body and tail on this piece just does not fit.

Still, this does appear to be very well done, and the artist, whoever he/she is, most definitely deserves credit for a cool piece of art.

We could be wrong, but if we had to place a bet, that's where our money would go. What do you guys think?

  4. Unless Banksy posts an image of this piece (which he hasn't), I say it's NOT a Banksy.

  9. hypebeast has some close up pictures of this piece... If it is indeed a Banksy (which I dont think so) I am not impressed. Looks unfinished and sloppy... Compare the 'caution' pics from the Banksy website and you be the judge.
