Teens Arrested for Graffiti Get Art Show For Sentence
In Brooklyn, a new program called 'Paint Straight' has been started where teenagers who are busted for graffiti are taught legal ways to hone their art, and are given an art show to showcase their skills.
"Yeah, we're glorifying graffiti - but in a responsible way," says program teacher and graffiti artist Ralph Perez.
And it seems to be working. Even though most of these teenagers have multiple arrests for tagging and graffiti, of the 33 who completed the program last year, only one has been rearrested.
You can read more about the program at the NY Daily News.
Very cool. Would love to see LA institute something positive like this. Think win/win, not jail time.
