So, every fan dreams of owning a Banksy, right?
But what if it were your house or property? As much as you might be thrilled about the new piece of art, would you be eager to cut a wall off your building? If you choose to keep it, would you be thrilled with the sudden attention that is sure to follow? Would you take steps to protect it? How?
Well, the NY Mag just published an article written by the actual owner of the building where Banksy painted his Japanese themed Geisha piece. The owner discusses the concerns and issues with owning a new Banksy piece. Its not all fun and ball games, people~. The owner captioned the picture of her new art "Thanks, I think . . . "
As for the actual steps to protect it so far, the owner has haired a full time security guard around the clock for $200 a day, and also installed a roll down shutter gate over the Banksy art itself. It is unfortunate that the gate chops right through the middle of the arch, which many folks feel is integral to the piece. The owner says she is not sure what she is going to do with the piece, but rumors have already begun to swirl that the piece has been purchases by a wealthy investor.
