Banksy at MOCA! - Paint Over This And Your Dead

Banksy is back in town!!!

After much anticipation about whether or not he would make an appearance, it is confirmed, and Banksy is at MOCA!

Banksy has an amazing room at MOCA's art in the streets.

Even though he is in the show, there must be some sort of secrecy agreement, as Banksy's name isn't anywhere in the promotional material, and when Jeffery Deitch made the introduction, he mentioned this stained glass window but said he couldn't mention the artist's name.

And Banksy's participation in the show seems to be tongue in cheek. Many of his pieces are not actual pieces of art. Instead of making a stencil, Banksy has framed many of his stencils. And other pieces are things like framed splatters on a wall. So Banksy seems to be poking fun at the event at the same time he is agreeing to be in it. Some say the best way to make a change is from within, and Banksy is definitely rocking the boat.

This piece is a stained painted 'stain glass window' that Banksy collaborated on with some students from the Los Angeles area. One of them wrote on it 'Paint Over This And Your Dead'. Dig it. And then Banksy placed a boy kneeling in front of the window with a brush and a bucket of paint as if praying for forgiveness.

A source at the show told us 4 guys have been working for 3 or 4 days on this Banksy installation, and that they just finished around 8 this morning. This is awesome to see Banksy's work in the show, but it is super exciting that he is back in town, so keep your eyes peeled for some fresh art on the streets of LA!
