JR Tagged Downtown

In addition to being hit up on Melrose, this JR mural also got tagged up downtown.

What happened on Melrose brought up a lot of discussion about the whether it was a good addition or pure vandalism. It seemed nearly everyone agrees that if you're going to hit something like this, it'd better be a fill in.

But what we haven't heard anyone say, is that these tags violate one of the biggest unwritten rules of graffiti, and that is, if you're going to go over something, you've got to do it bigger and better.

  2. I sincerely don't believe that any of the taggers tossing on these JR pieces have any concept of the "unwritten graffiti / street art commandments"

Ignorant to the fullest extent, young, and with some sort of gang affiliation - are my initial intuitions. The "fuck crakers" is a great addition BTW. I hate stale Saltines...or maybe he meant Quakers...maybe he just doesn't like Oatmeal.

Unfortunately and Fortunately - the end all of a lot of these debates that take place, is that you can have viewpoint on "respect" and when and how to cap someone else's piece, what looks good, what doesn't, etc... - but at the end of the day - it's all up for grabs. We relinquish any rights the moment we write...
