The Evolutionary Status of the Spray Can in the Contemporary Art World

Yesterday we posted how Bankrupt Slut was the first to get up inside the MOCA exhibition. Well, Free Humanity is the first to do an unsanctioned installation at the museum.

Free went and installed this piece on the outside of the MOCA building. It is called, 'The Evolutionary Status of the Spray Can in the Contemporary Art World'.

The piece features a resin coated balloon attached to a gold spray can that is dangling a dollar bill by a fish hook. And the writing is on an actual canvas, that was then attached to the wall.

It is commentary on the climb by street artists to earning riches and fame--and MOCA shows.

Big thanks to Listak for sending in the pictures.

  2. This is a great piece, what part of the bldg is it on? I am loving all of free's stuff lately but to be fair this is kind of the pot calling the kettle black, everyone sells prints for profit and it isnt like he hid this in an alley it is clearly piggybacking on the show's notoriety. That said Free is one of the most interesting/accessible artist in LA right now, stay up.

  6. seriously what does this even mean? So while street artist are becoming famous they are also trying to catch riches? and what does the balloon represent? ur taking a cliche idea and stringing together some cliche icons. a clusterfuk of unoriginality to me. i am young, but i am wise enough to know you are reaching with this one.
