Happiness and Handguns

An ironic yet official looking paster from Leba poking fun at the US Department of Homeland Security.  Some of it has been buffed out, but the full paster says 'Happiness starts with Prohibited'.

At the top a sticker has been added with Mickey Mouse-like hands pointing at Leba's paster in the form of a hand gun.

Ah, America~

Stay up!

Bradley Manning/Chelsea Manning - Crucified American Hero

Today is the memorial of 9/11.  To honor this terrible day in American history, and as commentary on the current state of freedom and free speech in America, here is a piece from Teacher in support of American values like peace, liberty and justice.

The image shows whistleblower Bradley Manning with arms extended as if on an American cross and wearing a crown of stars instead of thorns.  There are drips of blood dripping down from Manning's crown, as if to show how Manning got crucified for standing up for what he thought was right.  This piece was hand painted by Teacher, using markers and acrylic.  Impressive art work.

The imagery shows how Manning was crucified at his military trial.  It was not a fair trial, and it provided a glaring example of why someone like Edward Snowden would not receive a fair trial either. How unfair was it?  Manning was even prevented from arguing that his major motive for doing what he did was because he believed his actions were for the greater good.

Some people call Manning a traitor, but to the true Americans, Bradley Manning is a real life hero. Which side a person tends to be on depends on whether you think it is some things are wrong for anyone to do, or whether you think it is okay for some people to do wrong things.  Manning was crucified for shedding light on major wrongs that the American military is creating around the world.  It seems a better solution, and a better way to support freedom, would be to stop the atrocities, not prosecute the whistle blower.

It is unfortunate that after his conviction, Bradley Manning announced that he will now be pursuing a sex change and wants to be called Chelsea Manning.  Manning's decision is unfortunate, not because of what he chose, which is fine if Manning wants, but because the circus surrounding Manning sex change took away from the issues raised by his actions and his conviction.  However way Manning chooses to live her life or whatever Manning wants to be called from this point out is beside the point, Manning is already a great American Hero~

On this day in remembrance, it begs the question, when is a whistle blower going to release the files showing that 9/11 was also orchestrated by the government?

Everybody Needs Some Love

The old lady walking her wheelchair in the background just got released out of the hospital, 3 days before this.  She was released after having surgery to treat her colon cancer.  Since she is homeless, now she has nowhere to go.  She was walking the streets trying to gather enough money to pay for a shelter to stay the night.  Yes, most homeless shelters cost money these days . . .

The lady looked rough, as one might imagine for one in her condition.  But she was well spoken while she explained how there are many more male homeless shelters than female ones, and she was having a hard time finding a place to stay.

It is shameful how America's social safety net has so many holes that there really isn't even a net anymore.  Where are our priorities? What good is it spending billions of dollars to fight foreign wars if we can't even take care of our own citizens stateside?

American needs to get its priorities straight.  It should not be a nuisance to take care of the homeless, but a badge of pride that our country can take care of all its citizens.

All of this drama playing out in front of a polka dotted 3d heart affixed to the ground in downtown Los Angeles.  Everybody needs some love . . .

Stay up, America~

Don't Trust Thrashbird

Cool interaction by Thrashbird with his placement of pasters over DTA adverts.

The final result just says 'Don't Trust' and Thrashbird's McDonald's of America image.

Dig it~

Gun Culture in America

Gun culture is so wrapped up in American culture that much of the time it 'blends in'.  Like with this street piece here, featuring an ebox cut out of a camouflaged rifle.

Spotted in the Valley.

Immigrants Never Surrender

Ballsy sticker saying 'Immigrants Never Surrender' with an image of the Statue of Liberty with outstretched hands.

Its true.  Those chasing a dream for a better life will never surrender.  While those trying to keep others from doing what they want will eventually give up.

America was built on immigrants, and Americans should value the contributions that immigrants still make to society.  Immigrants are want-to-be-Americans, or trying-to-be-Americans, so America should do what it can to honor that while people around the world still want to come here.  The way America is headed, with crushing national debt, nationwide obesity and a failing health system, people might not want to come here for long . . .

1 Out of 6 Americans Struggles with Hunger

There is no bomb or tag on this billboard.  M&F is posting it because the message alone is crazy enough that people need to take notice.

The billboard says that '1 Out of 6 Americans Struggles with Hunger'.  Isn't that crazy?  One, out of every six people you see on the street might be hungry right now.

It doesn't matter how big of a super power any nation is.  If you can't feed your own people, you have major problems.  Meanwhile, politicians hand over your tax dollars to support corporations, not put food on the table of Americans.  Fuck that.  Its time for change, and when the belly is hungry, people are ready to fight.  Fuck corporate welfare.  Its time for America to quit supporting an aged and useless military industrial complex, and start taking care of its own citizens.

Fast Food Nation

Some greasy looking fast food getting pasted up on a wall in Hollywood.

Maybe its a tribute.  After all, what do Americans love more than our junk food?

M&F's Reach is Deep

M&F is based around Melrose and Fairfax, but our reach is much farther, literally reaching out to every corner of Los Angeles.

Here are some pics of a cool Mexican/American shared pride mural deep in the Valley.

Even though it is only 45 minutes away, it feels totally different from Hollywood.  It is much poorer and there is not glitz and glam like in Hollywood, but there are also plus sides.  For instance, there is plenty of non-metered parking.  So much, in fact, that this car is sitting on the street with only 3 wheels on its tires.  Shasta is pulling on the leash to try and chase a stray cat under the car.  Click the jump to see more pics of Shasta getting a cat chase, and the mural itself.

Closer Look at Amerika the Beautiful

Closer day time pics of Colur's Amerika the Beautiful mural at Traction.

Even though the progressives have come out on top in this election, it does not seem like it will fix all of America's problems, and 'Amerika' is still under the gun.  It doesn't matter which side of the aisle you choose, the people who choose to run for office in politics are more interested in their own agenda then truly helping the American people.  But America grows hopeful after each election that things might change.  Thank God for the few special ones like Elizabeth Warren!

The entire piece from Colur is hand painted and massive, measuring 12x18.
