Give The People Contests

Great poster pointing out what we used to call the 'Brittany Spears Syndrome'. The BSS was realized towards the beginning of the Iraq war, when it seemed that the majority of Americans weren't focusing much about the war, instead they were much more interested in the latest Brittany Spears scandal.

This poster calls out the same ideas. It says 'Give the people contests they win by remembering the words to more popular songs or the names of state capitols or how much corn Iowa grew last year. Cram them full of non-combustable data, chock them so damned full of 'facts' that they feel stuffed, but absolutely 'brilliant' with information. Then they'll feel that they're thinking, they'll get a sense of motion without moving. And they'll be happy because facts of that sort don't change. Don't give them any slipper stuff like philosophy or sociology to tie things up with. That way lies melancholy.'

Powerful stuff. Love how this is revolutionary without being political.

Think its from 27.
