MF'n Street Artist of 2011
MelroseandFairfax's Top Street Artist for 2011~
MF's 'Best Of' 2011
It is always hard to give out awards. There are so many artists who deserve recognition this year, that it is hard to select one from each category for 'M&F's Best Of 2011'. Each of the artists awarded the title earned it, but there are so many artists creating amazing art, that it is always difficult to select. Huge thanks to all the artists in 2011! And huge thanks to all the street art supporters! If there were a prize for best MF'n street art city, it would definitely go to Los Angeles!
Stay up, LA!
MF'n Street Artist of the Year
Teacher elevated street art in Los Angeles, both in terms of height, and content. His ups can't be questioned. Teacher singlehandedly hit more billboards than any other artist in 2011. He hit the highest, hottest spots including the state capital, city hall, and 15 story rooftops. Teacher held things down in the city with stickers, stencils, and wheat pastes, and also pushed the boundaries of street art, getting up with not only wheat pastes but hand made signs, newspaper box takeovers and traffic interruptions. It seemed that Teacher would create a new piece, or pieces, every week, always keeping it fresh, and always quality work. Teacher is one of the few artists who creates his pieces by hand before reproducing it for the streets, and Teacher has shown that he is skilled with both a skilled painter and craftsman. The fact that Teacher's street art is a campaign to raise awareness for increased education funding for children gives it even deeper meaning. Unfortunately, Teacher got arrested in December for placing a stencil on the Sunset Strip. The stencil said 'Teach Each Child'. Hopefully, even though Teacher got busted the message will live on. And 2011 was the year that LA got some teachin'! Congrats on gettin' up to MF'n Street Artist of 2011! Stay up!
Also a congrats to many talented sticker artists this year in LA who got up BIG and earned MF'n Honorable Mentions including Alec Monopoly, Free Humanity, Morley, Snyder, Common Cents, Septerhed, Lydiaemily, Bankrupt Slut, Cyrcle, Homo Riot, Desire Obtain Cherish.

Teacher for President!
ReplyDeletefirst i'd like to thank my wife for bailing me out of jail and continuing to love and support me! 2011 was the toughest year of my life because i have to rely on so many other people to help make a change in congress with something that has to do with my 17 month old twins - education. as i understand it, basically we have to tax the rich or make cuts in the education budget. doesn't really sound like a government to me - more like, i hope the rich people want to help the poor people...... i did my best to get as many different images out there in hopes that the right people would see them. sometimes all it takes is one person to make a huge change. big thanks to Melrose and Fairfax for all the love and giving me a tool(the blog) to help me get better. also big thanks to all the other LA street artists for the love, support, and inspiration.
ReplyDeletestay up!

ReplyDeleteHey man congrats, well deserved. Why my union dues cant go to someone like you instead of some swelled up CTA union boss is beyond me. You have done more to help highlight our lack of educational support in this state more than the CTA and NTA put together. Glad to hear the wife supports you, it takes a special person to take that kind of stance with you. Thanks again for the support you give us teachers and education. -IDLE
