Love Me, But Don't Love This

MELROSEandFAIRFAX is big fans of the 'Love Me' street campaign by artist Curtis Kulig, but we are not enjoying his latest addition to what was a beautiful street art wall. We feel that this addition doesn't add anything, but takes away, and guarantees that this wall will be buffed soon, just like the two other walls that Love Me did this to (one time going over a Banksy piece on Beverly).

Fresh Street Art at De La Barracuda

The main wall got buffed, but strangely enough, it seems the buffers selected the pieces they liked, and those they did not paint over.

Also, even though the buff is just a day old, new art has already sprung up . . .

When You Quit Acting Like a Lil' Bitch We Will Quit Treating You Like One

BEFORE

AFTER

It seems that Dethkills felt frustrated with the bad press they have received on MELROSEandFAIRFAX, and so they capped a couple M&F stickers on this spot.

A new sticker found its way right back on the spot, and now it reads 'De MELROSEandFAIRFAX Kills'. We totally agree~

We feel that we have been fair with our coverage of Dethkills, and they have straight earned the bad publicity. As we have mentioned earlier, we were fans of Dethkills when we first moved to LA. We enjoyed the robed death skull figure that was up on the streets last year and made a few postes celebrating their work.

DETHKILLS HAND PAINTED WHEAT PASTES

But then, soon after we started the blog, Dethkills orchestrated a massive corporate street campaign featuring Sasha Gray for Krooked skateboards. Dethkills showed themselves to be the worst of sell-outs as they took the advertisements around the city and went out their way to go over street art, capping many classic pieces and even hand painted originals (like Andrea LaHue's hand painted flowers).

Then, when some street artists, namely Alec, Free Humanity and Leba capped the advertisements back with real art, Dethkills got their panties up in a bunch and spent the rest of the year capping these and other street artists more ads and 'DK' scrawls (we are not sure if that is short for Dethkills or just Dick).

WARS NOT MAKE ONE GREAT
THE WORST SELL OUTS
STILL SELLING OUT - DETHKILLS

And Dethkills reaction is like an abusive husband-they blame everyone else for their being dicks, when it is solely their actions that bring it on. The problem is not the rest of the world, the problem is with you, Dethkills. Everything you put on the street gets immediately capped independently by street artists, graffiti writers, and even other corporate ads.

It is clear by the way you treat other artists and the streets that you have contempt for the scene. The corporate junk you spew on the streets, and the assholedness you package it in 'litter'-ally make what you do the worst thing that is happening on the streets of Los Angeles.

We don't expect much, but until you quit acting like a lil' bitch, we will keep treating you like one~

Get Up with Free Humanity Part 2

^Free Humanity climbs a pole in front of some hot girls. With art around from Alec, low_d, Insurgency Inc, JDI, AJL, and more

^Free Humanity and D Young V

Free Humanity, Bankrupt Slut, Gregory, Wheat Peace

Free Humanity climbs ninja style to get up

^After getting capped numerous times by Dethkills, Free Humanity adds a sticker to a paste on Melrose.

Here is Part 2 of MELROSEandFAIRFAX's exclusive set featuring Free Humanity getting up.

As the shots show, Free loves to climb. And the folks on the streets seemed to appreciate seeing street art in action.

Get up, stay up~

An Alec Street Art Xmas

***NEW ALEC MONOPOLY STREET VIDEO***

MELROSEandFAIRFAX received the heads up on a fresh new street art video from Alec Monopoly.

Packed full of intense street action, this is an awesome video that shows how Alec is a full "street art addict".

And we love it all the more because it gives a couple dope shout outs to MELROSEandFAIRFAX. Be sure to check it out with the link below

***NEW ALEC MONOPOLY STREET VIDEO***

And enjoy the Alec Street Art adaption of A Night Before Christmas.

A Street Art Xmas
T’was the night before Christmas, when streets were at peace,
Not a driver was driving, not even police.
Banners were hung in storefronts with care,
In hopes that tourists soon would shop there.
Families were sleeping all snug in their beds,
With holiday jingles stuck in their heads.
My wife fast asleep while I clutched a pillow case,
The dog in our bed takes up most of the space.
When outside our flat there appeared such a gawker,
I thought it was an LAPD helicopter.
Outside the window I saw a moustache
And a winking man wearing a sash.
The moon was eclipsed, but in the streetlights’ glow,
I could make out his top hat and tuxedo.
When what to my near-sighted eyes should appear?
Some blurry shapes that weren’t quite clear.
Then, with my glasses, I could make out metallic –
I knew it must be that street artist Alec!
Like Mad Max with art supplies in his big black jeep
And with spray can in hand, he was off in a leap:
“Now, Jack! Now, Dylan! Now, Monopoly Man’s!
On traffic boxes, on chimneys, on garbage cans!
Painted on billboards, pasted on walls,
Now dash away, dash away, before somebody calls!”
A smile on his face and a tip of his head
Let me know I had nothing to dread.
He spoke not a word, save for his sprayer,
Stenciling my street like a city surveyor.
Then laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, away he drove.
But I saw what he tagged once he drove out of sight:
“Happy Holidays to all, and to all a good night!”

Crazy Mold

After a week of rain, this crazy black mold has started growing out of the cracks of a lot of electric boxes.

Like this one with peeling art from Alec Monopoly, Bankrupt Slut, Kai in front of the Obey/Saber mural at De La Barracuda.

Crazy.

Qtip Meets a Dog Near Alec

We set Qtip up on this box to take a picture with a fresh new Monopoly Man spray painted piece by Alec.

But she saw a pug she wanted to meet so she hopped off the box. As you can see, Qtip is not shy around canines.

All Intoxicants Deserve Somebody

We had our share last night~

More dope street art from low_d. Love how low_d keeps it fresh with sick new designs. (also dig how low_d looks like a smiling face when typed~)

Up with Alec's Monopoly Man playin some tunes.

More negative/polarized faces (unknown artist).

The history of this box shown in the layers is fascinating, and you can really see the ever-present presence Alec has had on the streets with layers and layers of pastes showing.

Alec Monopoly Man - State of the Economy

Superb placement by Alec with his Monopoly Man out front of the Obey/Saber American Flag installation at De La Barracuda.

This particular piece seems to suggest a commentary on the economy, more specifically the bailout. Everyone's got a hand in the hat.

Alec Monopoly - Unleash the Power

Alec is back in a big way with fresh new work.

This modified Disney billboard on 3rd is especially impressive.

Alec took over Mickey's role as maestro, and it looks great~

Alec is Back!!

Alec is back in town and has hit Melrose and Fairfax with a vengeance.

After an uber-successful street campaign and art show in New York, its good to have Alec back home in Los Angeles.
