Banksy - Don't Fear the Reaper

Finally, here is the new offering from Banksy's website.  M&F called it when we said it was most likely a video.  It was a video, that also has a live installation in New York.

Check out the video above and keep checking back for more on the live performance

THIS is Why Banksy Does Not Reveal His Identity

Funny video here where a man impersonates Banksy at Banksy x Os Gemeos Outdoor Gallery Exhibition.

This is hilarious, not because the dude is an obvious fraud dressed up in a Matlock-mustache and dark blue hoody saying 'Banksy'.  But because the crowd is what makes this funny, and as soon as the dude starts pretending to be Banksy, people start believing he is Banksy.

Every wonder why Banksy doesn't reveal his identity? (and, in M&F's opinion, why other street artists shouldn't either)?  To escape god-awful mundane questions like the ones Banksy starts to get as soon as he gets identified.

The fans are stereotypical of the art world and the art world is boring as hell.  At the highest level, Banksy is art's only savior, at this point.

Banksy and the Staten Island Ants

Banksy just released today's piece.  Its a video entitled 'Staten Island', but the content of the video itself is a puzzle?

It just shows ants climbing in and out of a hole.  As the camera pulls out, there are lines on the side to suggest the curvature of a human body.  The lines possibly suggest that the ants are crawling out of a vagina?

Is this a teaser and the full look will reveal more?

Click below for a NSFW 'sandy vagina'.

Banksy Says "Erm . . ."

Apparently, Banksy took notice of the street thugs hassling people wanting to take a picture of Banksy's Beaver.

Banksy did not publicly announce it, but he released a video of the thugs in action on his website.

The video shows what an aggressive, hostile scene it was.  If Banksy's art pieces are really about the public interaction with the art, then this one is a doozy!

The pictures started at $5 then rose to $20.  Just like with Banksy's Central Park Canvas Sale, viewers might want to ask themselves, what would you have done in this situation.  Speaking for ourselves, M&F would not have paid for a picture, but we definitely would have tried to get one--good thing we weren't there or there might have been some trouble!  Lol, what would you have done?

Teacher and the 8er

Teacher had some fun with his custom made 8er spray paint video.  Yup, this is a fully functional custom device Teacher designed to spray many cans at once.

The 8er is actually Teacher's 9er, but with 8 cans loaded.

Check out Teach's short teaser video of the 8er in action.

BanksyNY Turns the Art World on Its Head

Bwahahahahaaa! LOVE today's piece from Banksy!

Banksy turns the art world upside down by setting up a sidewalk stall and selling 100% authentic original signed Banksy canvases for $60.

Every person in the world wants a Banksy and dreams of having one, right?  So guess how many sold? 8 canvases were sold, for a daily grand total of $420.  Two canvases were even haggled for at half price.

Incredible piece from Banksy.  Turning canvas art into performance art.

This demonstration shows how the art world is completely subjective.  Things in the art world only have value when someone says they have value.

Awesome stuff.  Please note, Banksy states that the art stall will not be there again today.

Check out the video below:

Video of Banksy's Meat Packing Truck

Here is the video that Banksy released for his 'Sirens of the Lambs' truck installation.

You can see and hear in the video how the animals are moving and wailing.  And one poor sheep has a ba-ba-black eye.

There are all kinds of interesting reactions to the truck, including all types of people from meat store employees to children cheering at the stuffed animals.

This video really seems to capture the different reactions that people have when confronted by street art like Banksy's.

BanksyNY's Crazy Horse and Collateral Murder

The location to Banksy's latest piece has been revealed, and already throngs of New Yorkers are visiting the site.  Clearly, on an aesthetic level, this piece is a favorite among Banksy's fans.

However, the context of Banksy's mural appears to dig much deeper than pure aesthetics.  The accompanying audio released on BankyNY's website is a clip from Wikileaks Collateral Murder video. In the recording, machine guns are heard, and then US soldiers dismissively discussing the dead, which include a dead child.  The Collateral Murder video was just one part of the files that Bradley Manning leaked from the US military.  Manning was found guilty by a slanted military trial, and Manning has been the subject of previous street art pieces here in Los Angeles.

Banksy's newest piece presents a darker side of battle.  This is also an interesting juxtaposition compared to Banksy's earlier released video, which showed warfare from an insurgents point of view.

Also, notice Banksy's attention to detail, like the way he stenciled 'Both Barrels' onto both barrels.

A heavy hitting piece in many ways, and many different levels from Banksy.

Click the jump for a HUGE pictorial look at this piece--from both sides of the fence.  (Fuck yeah! Dig the LA tag on the fence out front! And Banksy would probably dig the shot of the dog pissing on the piece!)

Banksy - Rebel Rocket Attack

Banksy just announced on his website that he will not be releasing any new photos today.  Apparently, Banksy is too disturbed after watching a rebel rocket attack bring down Dumbo.

Check out the video above.  Sure, its entertaining, but how does this online video fit into the theme for this show, Better Out Than In?  Why not do some street projecting of the video onto a wall in New York to keep it outdoors?

Anyhoo, check out the video above.  And show it to your kids.  This is why terrorism is bad.  It kills your favorite childhood cartoon icons.

Teacher & Chod - Church of None of This is Real Video

Teacher and Chod just released a video capturing all the action around their recent project, the 'Church of None of This is Real'.

This new video captures the full life span of the Church from the artists describing their motivations, to the building & decorating the piece, and then finally putting it out on the streets (and seeing people's reactions).

The story line is complete except for the ending.  Anyone know where the church ended up?

Another Banksy Tie-In to LA!

At this point, rumors are circulating like crazy that Banksy is going to have an art show and that its going to be in LA.  However, so far, its all just rumors.

But here is something suggesting an LA tie-in that is a bit more substantial.  It appears that the stencil image Banksy used for the announcement for 'Better Out Than In' was taken from the 'Yonkers' music video from Tyler the Creator.  Tyler and his crazy Odd Future homeboys are locally based right on Fairfax.

Chod Gets a Taste of His Own Treatment . . . Kind Of

Months ago, Chod did one of the most uproarious things that has happened on the streets.  Chod visited a local gallery, purchased a $2,500 painting by Annie Preece, painted over it, and then returned it to the streets where it hung for a full day before being recovered by Annie herself.  It was a fascinating saga, and you can check out the original story HERE.

As Chod later explained in a rebuttal, the piece was done to explore "the ideas of what values we assign to objects and who specifically attaches value to them".  It is fascinating how $2500 cash--or really most any bulk material or product, however, that 'value' was failed to be recognized by everyone else on the streets.  The value of art is arbitrary, and it was a brazen and bold move on Chod's part to put his money where his idea was.  Chod has since continued to play with the idea of money with his art.

Well, today Chod got a taste of his own treatment . . . kind of.  Someone just released the above video on Youtube where Chod's painting was similarly purchased from a local gallery for a reported $1500, then completely painted over, and then also reportedly resold at the Melrose and Fairfax flea market for $150.

The video says that the pieces are 'art born of the same canvas', but it is not clear what the point of this takeover is.  After all, Chod's painting was completely painted over so that by selling the final piece, it only seems to say that the second image was not worth as much as the first.

M&F can confirm that Chod's painting was purchased, however, the video also implies that Chod might be somehow involved with this production.  In a rambling discourse, the description of the video on Youtube also suggests that M&F is involved in some sort of film conspiracy with Chod.  That is not true.  There is no conspiracy.  The art is what it is and we report it accordingly.  You are welcome to make up your own mind after that fact, but there is no film in the works and no image this blog is trying to put out in conjunction with Chod, or anyone else.

So what is the point of this?  Chod's seems like real art with a strong statement.  This seems like a waste of money to prove an unclear point?
