MELROSEandFAIRFAX is the #1 Street Art Blog in the USA

MELROSEandFAIRFAX had a big week last week when our hits and web traffic pushed us out in front of Wooster for the first time, and M&F is now the top ranked street art blog in the USA~

But don't take our word for it, take Alexa's. Alexa is a program akin to Google Analytics which gathers online data and ranks websites based on their traffic. Alexa ranks the websites place both in the US and in the world. Wooster is still clearly a good deal ahead of M&F in the world rankings, but M&F just jumped in front to be the top street art blog in the USA~

This is a really momentous accomplishment for the blog, and, honestly, one that we never thought would happen. We have always loved and admired Wooster (still do!), and even to be mentioned in the same breath as them is an honor. It is still hard to get our head around the idea the rankings are what they are.

If the rankings seem a little confusing, its because Alexa doesn't break the websites down into sub-categories, the rankings are relative to all websites in the entire world. So, out of every single website in the entire world--out of all the countries, and businesses, and banks, and schools, and universities, and blogs, and forums and everything else, M&F is ranked 201,108 worldwide and 33,678 in the US. It might sound like we are way back there, but to give the stats a larger frame of reference, these numbers place the blog in the top 99.8% of all sites in the entire world.

These numbers are especially cool since all the growth has been organic. Outside of a few stickers we printed for friends, we haven't done any advertising, and unlike a lot of websites out there, we don't employ any sort of search engine 'steroids' to beef up online stats. What you see is what you get, and the numbers that gave us this ranking is based on the sheer numbers themselves.

We have put in a lot of hard work to earn this. Since we don't necessarily clock in, its hard to tell exactly how much time each day goes into the blog but between the process of gathering pictures, imputing and readying those pics for the blog (resizing and cropping), making posts, emails, and maintaining the site, we have been putting in at least 8 hours a day--probably much more (yesterday was a typical day and it was about 12 hours on the blog or related activities). And we haven't earned a cent from the blog yet. As some people know, we haven't even got paid for the art show we curated. A ton of awesome hook ups, a few meals, and a supporter's generous gift of a new longboard are the only thing we have got from this blog (and the board means the world to us!). We are open to business opportunities but our main goal is doing so in a way that protects the integrity of the blog, helps street art, and promotes things in the right way. We have recently been approached with some offers that are appealing, so we might finally start seeing a financial return, which will just make putting out quality work so much easier, and worthwhile. Even though we haven't got paid a cent yet, we aren't complaining. We love this shit. This is a lifestyle, and most days, street art is the first thing we think about in the morning and the last thing at night. It has been 13 straight months since we have even taken a day off. And that means 13 straight months with 10+ posts each and every day, and that is a big reason we have reached beyond even the other top street art blogs (all of whom we dig and admire~).

Anyways, enough about the numbers. We'd like to give a huge thanks to all the supporters and fans who have made this possible and thrust the blog to such heights. One of the greatest things we have seen from this blog is the awesome sense of community that has come out and shown such strong support for Los Angeles street art. We have made some great friendships and experienced some incredible stories. (We try to stay diplomatic on the blog, but one day we will have to write a book about all the juicy behind-the-scenes stories that are going on--which are often times crazier than anything!) But most of all, we'd like to give a tremendous thank you to all of the artists who have put their amazing art all of this beautiful city of Los Angeles. Truly, this ranking is just a nod of recognition to the strength of LA's art scene, and the thanks belongs to you~

Thanks again for all the support. We pledge to keep bringing the hottest street art stories with 10+ posts every day! And we have an absolutely amazing project in the works with Mr. Brainwash--its HUGE and like nothing that has ever been done before. Full reveal coming soon! Thanks Los Angeles~

  8. You've totally earned this. The product of hard work that no one asked you to do and too few thank you for. Between the frequency of posts, spotlighting stuff that would normally go unnoticed, helping to unify a scene of scattered anonymous artists and doing it all for free, congrats to the best street art blog around. You rock.
