Love War?

Man, this piece we had high hopes for.
When we first saw the piece, it was a quick look from the car, and it appeared to be one of Dethkills' pasters. We were impressed because it looked like they had quit going out of their way to cap other artists, and had actually started treating the streets with respect. Made a special trip just to photograph this spot, and the whole way down we were planning out how to write the article to welcome DK's back to the community. It was actually a big let down once we reached this spot, and realized that it was not the case.
We are not sure what exactly to think about this 'heart' war stuff by unknown artitst?

D(ic)K's

Getting all the gnarly out tonight.
Dethkills (DK) over Alec, and Free Humanity writing DICK's on top of that with a spray can, emulating the style in which Dethkills has crossed out numerous pieces.
This has now been tagged over with black spray paint as well.

When You Quit Acting Like a Lil' Bitch We Will Quit Treating You Like One
BEFORE

AFTER

It seems that Dethkills felt frustrated with the bad press they have received on MELROSEandFAIRFAX, and so they capped a couple M&F stickers on this spot.
A new sticker found its way right back on the spot, and now it reads 'De MELROSEandFAIRFAX Kills'. We totally agree~
We feel that we have been fair with our coverage of Dethkills, and they have straight earned the bad publicity. As we have mentioned earlier, we were fans of Dethkills when we first moved to LA. We enjoyed the robed death skull figure that was up on the streets last year and made a few postes celebrating their work.
DETHKILLS HAND PAINTED WHEAT PASTES
But then, soon after we started the blog, Dethkills orchestrated a massive corporate street campaign featuring Sasha Gray for Krooked skateboards. Dethkills showed themselves to be the worst of sell-outs as they took the advertisements around the city and went out their way to go over street art, capping many classic pieces and even hand painted originals (like Andrea LaHue's hand painted flowers).
Then, when some street artists, namely Alec, Free Humanity and Leba capped the advertisements back with real art, Dethkills got their panties up in a bunch and spent the rest of the year capping these and other street artists more ads and 'DK' scrawls (we are not sure if that is short for Dethkills or just Dick).
WARS NOT MAKE ONE GREAT
THE WORST SELL OUTS
STILL SELLING OUT - DETHKILLS
And Dethkills reaction is like an abusive husband-they blame everyone else for their being dicks, when it is solely their actions that bring it on. The problem is not the rest of the world, the problem is with you, Dethkills. Everything you put on the street gets immediately capped independently by street artists, graffiti writers, and even other corporate ads.
It is clear by the way you treat other artists and the streets that you have contempt for the scene. The corporate junk you spew on the streets, and the assholedness you package it in 'litter'-ally make what you do the worst thing that is happening on the streets of Los Angeles.
We don't expect much, but until you quit acting like a lil' bitch, we will keep treating you like one~

That Shit's Fresh

Fresh wheat pastes from The Status Faction on Fairfax.
Fresh as shit!
A Dethkills piece above, and it has been capped by an advertisement. This was the second box in a row with the yellow ad right over Dethkills. As Dethkills puts up a lot of advertisements on the streets, it seems that this is a corporate street ad beef.

Leba - Jobs Not War

^Anne Frank holding a sign saying 'Jobs Not War' by Leba

^"We're Nothing Watching" sprayed by Leba over Robert Dinero and Ben Stiller Little Fockers promo

Leba, and Dethkills with Free Humanity writing over it

^Leba and Free Humanity in front of the Obey installation at De La Barracuda
It feels like it has been too long since seeing Leba on the streets of Melrose and Fairfax.
Leba brings such a strong art aesthetic to the streets. Its great to see fresh new work. As always, both artistically appealing and packaged with a strong message.
Great to see Leba up again~

Get Up with Free Humanity Part 2

^Free Humanity climbs a pole in front of some hot girls. With art around from Alec, low_d, Insurgency Inc, JDI, AJL, and more
^Free Humanity and D Young V

Free Humanity, Bankrupt Slut, Gregory, Wheat Peace

Free Humanity climbs ninja style to get up

^After getting capped numerous times by Dethkills, Free Humanity adds a sticker to a paste on Melrose.

Here is Part 2 of MELROSEandFAIRFAX's exclusive set featuring Free Humanity getting up.
As the shots show, Free loves to climb. And the folks on the streets seemed to appreciate seeing street art in action.
Get up, stay up~

Dethkills

Dethkills puts up some of their own art on the streets for the first time in a long time.
Followers of the blog know that we have been unimpressed with Dethkills art-killing corporate campaigns in 2010. We have covered far more Dethkills putting advertisements over art and crossing stuff out than we have of their putting out art on the streets.
But apparently Dethkills is not without fans, and we have received 2 email submissions for Dethkills as crew of the year. We were rather astounded as we have seen absolutely nothing that would deserve Dethkills being mentioned this year.
It seems that their past efforts have earned the respect of some folks in LA, and we would like to see more of the art that brought that in the future.
More art on this wall from Paroh, Bankrupt Slut, Save the City, Slob, Dump, Kruz, Glaboe, Join the Surveillance, Newt, JDI, Yikes, Sheep, Hidden Friends and more.

Alec's Back and the Hater's Hate
Dethkills STILL hasn't put any new art up, but apparently they do still have a bucket of paint to carry around and cross stuff out. Like this, with Alec's Twiggy.
(But, as has happened before, we kinda dig the end result~)
**Maybe it is someone other than Dethkills. We assumed it was because of their earlier work writing DK over pieces in the same color paint**

Alec Monopoly Man Gets Spiffy
MelroseandFairfax has expressed how unimpressed we are with Dethkills art-killing ventures.
After his Monopoly Man had been defaced by Dethkills, Alec came back to fix the art, and it is better than ever. Really love the pink bow tie.

Haters Gonna Hate
Apparently Dethkills is killing time waiting for their next art-killing corporate street campaign by capping more art.
Art battles are one thing, but Dethkills hasn't been bringing any new art to the streets, just limiting themselves to defacing other artists' pieces. MelroseandFairfax must say that it is interesting how the colorways of the going over paint seem to go along with the colorway of the piece.
