Pictures of LA from an Airplane - This City is Amazing!

Another segment in M&F's ongoing series Livin' in LA - Vacation in LA~

Here are some awesome aerial pictures of Los Angeles.  These shots were taken from an airplane as M&F was leaving the city to go on vacation, and they really capture a different side of the city, and how LA is an urban jungle nestled into a fabulous, and rather stunning natural environment.

Like this pic above--it captures a gorgeous lake tucked away in the Hollywood Hills.  You can see the rows of big buildings in the background, but take a moment and imagine this environment with no structures of any kind.  This natural environment would be pretty enough to earn the cover of National Geographic.

LA is a beautiful place, and even though she has many different looks, each one is flattering and incredible in its own right.

Let's Go to Prison - Obey & Andre 2006

Dig these flashback shots, and the way the rooftops used to be filled with art, but look more clean.

Its crazy how things change, yet they still stay the same, and seven years later believe this same monkey is still hanging around the graffiti and street art scene on Melrose.

Street Art Snagger Caught Red Scootered!

After two posts this week covering how businesses are profiting off of stolen street art imagery, and sometimes stolen street art itself, M&F just got sent some anonymous pictures of a street art heft taking place.

M&F got sent these pics of this dude on a scooter making off with 2 street art tiles captured from the side of a building on Melrose (you can see the tiles tucked under his arm in the above photo).

To clarify, M&F has consistently written that we understand that sometimes art gets taken from the streets, and when it is taken by a real fan, the heist of a treasured piece is a huge compliment.  However, when folks harvest street art and then turn and sell it for a profit without acknowledging the original artist, if not legally, it feels ethically wrong.  Not sure what the context is here.  Hope these are appreciated, not just sold.

Since the tiles were still wet enough to be taken, they were too fresh that M&F did not get a chance to document the art before it left the streets.

. . . aaand Some Actual Cave Drawings!

Following up the earlier post on how the roots of modern graffiti date back to early markings, here are some shots of actual cave drawings.

These shots were taken by M&F's family in Moab National Park--America is a beautiful country!

Known Gallery Present's Ernie Holzman's 'LA Backstory'

The Known Gallery presents new work in an exhibit entitled LA Backstory from Photographer and Cinematographer Ernie Holzman.

Described as a 'guerrilla installation', the pics M&F got sent for the preview show artistic nudes of naked girls in public.  This is right down our alley.  Two thumbs up with a big 'Dig it!'.

The 2012 West Hollywood Halloween Block Party was a HUGE and crazy like every year.

Over half a million people dressed up and ventured out to Santa Monica Blvd. to join in the festivities.

West Hollywood's 2012 Gay Pride parade seemed to be a relatively tame affair, with many family's and children in attendance. Still, there were a number of flamboyant characters including more bearded laides, dominatrix's, Gloria Allred, and hip-thrusting-speedo-wearing firemen.

Banksy Was a Big Deal

The hottest spot in LA the past few days has been in front of a Banksy piece.

We spent 15 minutes or so by the Charlie Brown piece yesterday before it got taken down, and during that brief time, a dozen or so people came by. Click the jump for more
