New Spot, New Location, STILL Not Banksy

Geez, people. M&F tried to tell you all yesterday -- this dude is not selling legit Banksy t shirts.

Banksy's publicist has now confirmed that this dude selling 'I Am Banksy' t shirts has nothing to do with Banksy.

Kinda funny, like how all the 'die-hard' fans who know enough to recognize a Banksy (or so they think), but they don't know what the man or his plan is about. Bet, these are going to sell out again today. So, who's going to go and buy some more fake Banksy t shirts?

Did Odd Future Rip Off Cat Cult?

Followers of M&F will be long familiar with Cat Cult.  The graffiti/street art collective gets up all over Los Angeles, from the east side to the west side, and including Fairfax.  Which is the stomping grounds of music group/street wear collective Odd Future.

LA Weekly just published a story saying that Tyler the Creator, the frontman of Odd Future, wore what appeared to be a Cat Cult T shirt onstage during the 2011 MTV Video Awards.  Although anyone who looks at the t-shirts can see the similarities, and might very well think that it was a Cat Cult piece, however, the shirt Tyler wore was not actually a Cat Cult piece.

Cat Cult sent a Cease-and-Desist letter to Odd Future, which Odd Future ignored, but LA Weekly reports that they did start to modify the designs a bit.  Cat Cult would like to press forward with a lawsuit, but the lawyers fees cost too much and are effectively prohibitive to pursue his claim.  Even though the cat heads do look similar to each other, a verdict is always uncertain, and some folks might argue that any cat head looks like another cat head.

What do readers think?  Did Odd Future steal the cat design from Cat Cult?

Icy & Sot Love LA~

Another new piece from visiting Iran street art duo, Icy & Sot.

This piece shows some love towards the city of LA with a scruffy kid wearing an 'I (heart) LA' shirt.

Chod - Thanks to Everyone

Did you get a free T-shirt?

Chod hosted a free t-shirt giveaway at the corner of Melrose and Fairfax on December 2nd.  Hopefully a lot of people showed up and scored some groovy gear.  The M&F team planned on attending, but our collective short term memory is shot, and we forgot!

Chod has replaced a former paste on the electrical box located at the intersection of Melrose and Fairfax thanking everyone who came down.  Dig the way that Chod is engaging the community, and still doing it in a way that is true to the streets.

Perhaps, like M&F has mentioned before, the next generation after the Fame Bangers will be engaged with Community based street art.

Dig it.  Stay up!

Free T-Shirts At Melrose & Fairfax!

Chod is doing a very cool thing--and something that has never really been done on the streets before.

Sure, many artists have done street art scavenger hunts, and the fans seem to love those.  But instead of doing a random spontaneous chase, Chod is announcing a set date for a free art T-shirt giveaway on the streets.  No idea what the giveaway will feature, but Chod has been doing some cool stuff on the streets of LA so it should be cool.  Be there.  December 2nd.  At the specific time of 9:17 pm.

To be clear, this giveaway is being hosted by Chod at the intersection of Melrose and Fairfax.  This blog is not involved with the give-away in any way other than to say that we think its pretty cool and dig it~

Perhaps, and Random Act and Snyder mentioned, this is a sign that perhaps the next generation of street artists is indeed going to be community oriented.

Be there.  12/2/12 at 9:17 PM.  And Stay Up!~

Seeking The Throne

We have posted these stickers before, namely the one on the left, but that was before we knew what they were about.

When we first saw these stickers we liked them for the capture and portrayal of life in California. It turns out, these are designs by LA based lifestyle company Seeking The Throne.

MelroseandFairfax might celebrate street art in Los Angeles, but STT celebrates life in LA. Fine dining, entertainment, big names, street art, stickers, sneakers, style--STT takes all this and encapsulates it, packaging 'LA' in street wear clothing.

If you dig the designs, or just dig STT's lifestyle aesthetic, you can make a purchase or follow them here
