Filling in the Shadows with Colors

That's what graffiti and street art do--fill in the shadows with colors.

Here is this piece from Icy and Sot riding in downtown Los Angeles.

Censorship Never Shows the Full Picture in Life

Censorship sucks.  This 'Finish Line' mural from Icy and Sot got censored because a few select members of the local Orthodox Jewish community felt that the runners shorts were too short.

It sounds ridiculous, especially since there was no sexual or suggestive content in the original mural.

It is sad when the lowest common denominator gets to determine what is allowed in society.  Most often times it is

This wall is a good visual example with only the arms and legs sticking out, to show how when one implements a personal program of self censorship, you are limiting yourself to the limbs of knowledge, and you never really view the full body of what is being said.

Keep It In Your Pants

When it comes to guns, just keep it tucked in your pants.  Or better yet, don't keep one at all.  Like the 311 song quotes, "guns are for pussy's".

Here is a wheat paste from Icy & Sot with a dude with two guns tucked into his pants.

Droppin' Peace Bombs on Your Moms

Icy & Sot came through LA a few weeks ago, and they still have some pieces to be discovered.

Like this airplane stencil dropping peace bombs on Melrose.

Dig it.  Stay up!

My, Oh My

The bottom half of JR's giant pasted face on Melrose got covered up by newspaper advertisements right away.

Now, the upper half of the face is left holding its head as if to say "My, oh my."

Icy & Sot Art Show - Preview Pics from San Francisco

Icy and Sot get ready to open an art show in Los Angeles on March 8th.  And here is a sneek-preview from the Icy & Sot show that just ended in San Francisco.

Dig it.  Lots of cool work.  If you want to catch the LA show in person, the Icy and Sot show is open March 8-11 at The Vortex (2341 E. Olympic Blvd.) with live music on opening night from The Yellow Dogs.

***Big thanks to M&F contributor and long time supporter Ali for sending in the pics!***

Icy & Sot - Self Tattoo's

A doorway stencil from Iranian street artists Icy & Sot on Melrose.

Looks as if the kid is filling his arm up with self tattoo's.

Spray Can Love

Another fresh street art piece from Icy & Sot on Melrose.

This one features a boy hugging an oversized spray can, showing some literal and physical graffiti love.

Riding with Luzr and Col Wallnuts.

Short Lived

M&F called it the other day when we said it is generally not a good idea for visiting street artistis to put street art over home town graffiti pieces, and only a day later pieces from Icy & Sot and Bandit get capped back by Hags.  With a shout out to Rohg and Samo.

Icy & Sot - The Long Walk

A piece featuring a little boy on a long walk from visiting Iranian street artists Icy & Sot.

Icy & Sot Street Art Dance

Visiting street artists Icy & Sot put up another hand painted wheat paste on the streets.

This one features a girl pulling out a mushroom looking dress as if she's dancing.

In general, when visiting any town, out of respect and in the interest of staying up, it is probably a good idea not to go over the home town graffiti.  Just sayin'.  But this spot has had more than its fair share of going over, and over again.

Cool piece.  Want to dance?

Icy & Sot - Starting at the Finishline

Huge new street art piece from Icy & Sot on Beverly.

The Iran based duo has been really active doing some big pieces around the Hollywood area.  This is the biggest mural with a giant runner poised as if to take off running, yet his starting pose is crouched right in front of the finish line.

Dig this series of shots, too.  Click the jump for more
